Myanmar opened its doors to tourism not long ago. It is certainly because of its isolation for so many years that the country has preserved its authenticity and preserve wonderfully, over time, a particular cultural and historical heritage. You will discover all its treasures thanks to a circuit of 11 days and 10 nights.
Your Itinerary —
Arrival at Yangon International Airport before being welcomed by your guide who will transfer you to the hotel so you can stay the night.
Day 2: Yangon - Bagan
Breakfast included at the hotel, transfer to Yangon airport and flight to Bagan. You will take the domestic flight to Bagan, the most amazing site of Myanmar if not all of Southeast Asia. On the banks of the Irrawaddy are thousands of stupas and temples full of history. Indeed, all around you, you will be surrounded by ruins of all sizes, witnesses of the apogee of Buddhist architecture of Myanmar.
Arrival in Bagan, transfer to the local restaurant. Enjoy a refreshment at your hotel. In the afternoon you will continue with the visit of Shwezigon Pagoda, where pilgrims come to honor Buddha and the 37 Nats. Transfer to Nan Myint Tower "Bagan Viewing" to admire the sunset. Stay the night at the hotel.
Day 3: Bagan
After your breakfast, your guide will take you from your hotel to the colourful market of Nyuang Oo, where locals trade fresh produce, and also their artisanal production. It will introduce you to the many herbs and vegetables used in Burmese cuisine.
Visiting the Ananda Temple, which has been described as a genius architectural work is certainly one of the most striking temples in Bagan. Discover its murals, dating from the 13th century. You will continue to the village of Myinkaba, where you will visit its family Lacquer factories. Observe the creation of the most admired lacquers of the region. Over the years, this know-how has become internationally renowned. All stages of production are presented and we can only remain amazed by the skill of the craftsmen.
Your afternoon will begin in a carriage to continue visiting temples and pagodas: And especially, Thatbyinnyu, the largest temple in Bagan. The elegant Htilominlo Temple, renowned for its fine plaster sculptures and glazed stoneware decorations. The Shwegugyi Temple, also called the Great Golden Cave, witness to the Bagan architecture of the middle ages.
Stay the night at the hotel.
In the morning, private transfer to Bagan airport for your domestic flight to Hého, Shan country. On arrival in Hého, departure for Nyaung Shwe. You will embark aboard your private canoe on Inle Lake.
Discovery of a superb setting: set in a crown of treetops covered with deep forests, the lake is a blue and purple oasis punctuated by islands, temples and monasteries. Visit of Nga Phe Monastery. This wooden monastery, built on stilts, contains an astonishing collection of Buddha statues. And you'll discover the local craftsmanship of Inle Lake with a stop at the village of Inpawkhone, famous for weaving stems of lotus flowers, and a traditional Burmese cigar factory. Return by boat to your hotel, located on the lake.
Day 5: Inle Lake
We invite you to spend a half-day out of time in an authentic village on stilts to learn how to cook Burmese. Departure at 8am from your hotel towards one of the markets around the lake where you will buy the necessary products for the preparation of the meal with your Burmese chef. Then, you will go back on board of your canoe to go to the house of your host on the lake. You will arrive in an enchanting, calm and authentic place. It is time to get your hands dirty, accompanied by your cook, you will learn how to cook the main Burmese dishes. On the menu, a dozen typical dishes such as bean soup, green tomato salad, tea leaf salad, tempura vegetables, fried cauliflower, Shan tofu curry, fish cooked in the leaves banana, chicken curry with basil, eggplant salad, vegetarian curry.
You can then enjoy a small tour of a local boat in the village before having a half day free to enjoy your charming hotel on Inle Lake.
Day 6: Inle Lake - Sagar - Inle Lake
Start this morning from your hotel to reach Sagar: area south of Inle Lake. Very few tourists make the trip to this site (it takes about 3 hours by boat) yet it is one of the most beautiful places in Shan State. The most isolated villages and floating gardens, marshy areas through which large buffaloes pass, small coastal villages where Burmese clean their clothes from the lake while others bathe there: the canal leading to Sagar is a real beauty.
On the way, you will visit:
- The village of Thayer Gone, known for its production of local rice alcohol. You will be able to observe the distillation process and taste some local beers if you wish.
- The pottery village of Sae Khaung, renowned for its manufacture of oil and water pots and natural underground ovens.
- Tar Kaung and his 108 stupas that are partially under water for part of the year.
Here you are in Sagar!
You will stroll through this traditional village to discover its stupas, its market and its small alleys. With luck, you will arrive at a time when schoolchildren enjoy their lunch break. Along the way, stop at Red Mountain Winery for local wine tasting and superb views to savour the sunset.
Transfer to HEHO airport for domestic flight to Thandwe, a village near Ngapali Beach, a beautiful wilderness on the west coast. Reception at Thandwe airport by the hotel staff. Transfer to the hotel. Your hotel is located at the edge of a long sandy beach lined with coconut trees, in the heart of the beautiful Bay of Bengal.
Through fishing villages, enjoy a meal of seafood in one of the many restaurants on the coast. Or enjoy the facilities offered by the hotel (sea canoe, fishing parties, "cocktail" courses ...)
Day 8 and 9: Ngapali
Free day.
Suggestions:
- Rent a bike for a stroll in the countryside along the sea.
- Through fishing villages, enjoy a meal of seafood in one of the many restaurants of the coast.
- Or enjoy the facilities offered by the hotel (sea canoe, fishing parties, "cocktail" courses)
You will be accompanied to the airport for your Domestic flight to Yangon. At the earliest Thandwe flights arrive at 12:30 in Yangon.
Visit the Bogyoke Market known as Scott Market. Its 2,000 boutiques offer the largest selection of crafts and typical Burmese objects from all over the country: fabrics, precious stones (jade, rubies and sapphires), basketry and braided bamboos, lacquers, puppets, antiques ... Discover the Sule pagoda wearing a stupa 46 meters high covered with gold plates. You will pass through the Chinese and Indian neighbourhoods of the city, these neighbourhoods meet and form a real outdoor market.
Passage through the colonial district with its old buildings with Victorian facades built by the British in the 19th century, such as the Post Office or the Strand Hotel.
Day 11: Departure from Yangon
You will immerse yourself in the daily life of the largest city of Myanmar. From Yangon Central Station, board the "Circular Train" to the various parts of the city and its suburbs (the train journey takes about 20 minutes) Please note that the comfort on the train is very basic and that many locals take it during the day). Get off at Kyee Myin Daine Station, one of the most beautiful train stations in Yangon. At this hour of the morning, the neighbourhood is a buzzing hive of activity with children on the way to school, locals taking a bowl of noodles on the way to work, as well as nuns and monks who harvest offerings to passersby.
And you will continue your discovery of one of the jewels of Myanmar, one of the most spectacular monuments in the world, the Shwedagon Pagoda. Stroll to the sound of the bells and the faithful singing at the foot of the huge golden stupa, which shines brightly at sunset.
Depending on the schedule of your flight, transfer to Yangon International Airport, then assistance with check-in.
