Days 1 - 3: Amman - Jerash - Iraq El Amir

Day 1: Arrival in Amman 
 

  • Arrival Queen Alia international Airport.
  • You'll be met and assisted by our representative, before being transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Amman - Jerash - Ajloun - Umm Qais

 

Jerash (Gerasa), is without doubt one of the most beautiful Roman cities preserved in the Near East, and is known as the city of 1000 pillars. Our local guide will introduce you to his colonnades, temples, theaters, churches, cardo-maxims and other monuments.

 

Ajloun is a 12th-century Muslim castle situated in the Northwest of Jordan. It's believed that the castle controlled traffic along the road connecting Damascus and Egypt. Visit the castle and its exhibition, containing many interesting artifacts from various time periods. You can also admire the panoramic view over the Jordan Valley.

Once an important fort city, Gadara sits atop a hill, offering grand views over Lake Tiberias, the Yarmouk River and the Golan Heights. Gadara was associated with the story of Jesus casting out demons and later noted for its rich intellectual life and referred to as 'the new Athens'.

 

  • Explore Ajloun Castle and Umm Qais in Jerash.
  • Travel onwards to Ajloun.
  • Visit Gadara, before returning to Amman.

Day 3: Amman - Iraq El Amir

 

Amman is the capital and most populated city of Jordan. A fascinating city of contrasts, it's a unique blend of old and new. Must-sees include the ancient ruins of the Hercules’ temple, the Byzantine church, the Omayyad palace and the fascinating archaeological museum.

 

Visit Abdoun, a contemporary district showcasing some of Amman's best modern architecture. In juxtaposition, the oldest part of Amman is crowned by the citadel, offering panoramic views of the city. 

 

Iraq al-Amir, means 'Caves of The Prince', the area is generally known for Qasr Al-Abd, an impressive and unique building dating from the first quarter of the second century BC During the Greek Macedonian occupation. The area has many springs, and famous for its olive trees.

 

  • Spend the full day visiting Amman.
  • Visit The Royal Automobile Museum and the Ladies' Association of Iraq El Amir, where you can opt to partake in a cooking class with local women.

Days 4 & 5: Amman - Monte Nebo - Dead Sea

Day 4: Amman - Monte Nebo - Madaba - Dead Sea
 

Set off from Amman, headed for Monte Nebo - believed to be the place where Moses lived out his remaining days and viewed as the Promised Land. Mount Nebo offers a fantastic view of the Dead Sea, the West Bank, Jericho, the Jordan River, and on a clear day Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

 

Visit Madaba - a small town in central Jordanthat was an important stop on the  Christian pilgrim’s route from Jerusalem to Mount Nebo. Boasting many churches decorated with mosaics, it has been called the 'City of the Mosaic'.

The town is also considered to be the location of the 'Madaba Map' and therefore of of significant historical importance. The 'Madaba Map' shows ancient depictions of Jerusalem and parts of the Holy Land.

 

Travel a short distance from Madaba to reach The Dead Sea - which, sitting some 430.5 meters below sea level, is the lowest point on earth.

 

  • Visit the Madaba Folklore Museum, revered for its Byzantine mosaic floors.
  • Enjoy sunbathing and swimming at The Dead Sea.

Day 5: Dead Sea - The King's Highway - Kerak - Dana Village tour - Petra
 

Commence your journey to Petra by setting off along The King's Highway - the world’s oldest continuously used 'commute route', which once linked important towns in the north and south in ancient times. The Kings’ Highway is first mentioned in the bible, when Moses led the Exodus through Jordan.

 

The striking silhouette of the fortified town and castle of Kerak with its dark, roughly-shaped crusader masonry will instantly take you back in time. 

 

The Dana Biosphere Reserve is an area of staggering beauty, history and biodiversity, encompassing the four different bio-geographical zones of the country (Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian, Saharo-Arabian and Sudanian). It's a veritable melting pot of species from Europe, Africa and Asia. 

 

  • Visit to Dana Nature Reserve. 
  • Arrive in Petra.

Days 6 - 10: Petra - Wadi Rum - Aqaba

Day 6: Petra Visit with a local guide – Walking up to 6.5 miles

 

Although much has been written about Petra, nothing really prepares you... Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is without a doubt Jordan's greatest treasure. 

 

This  vast city was carved into the sheer rock face over 2000 years ago and became an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.

  • Spend the day discovering Petra. 
  • Begin the visit on horseback, travelling some 700 metres to the entrance of an impressive narrow gorge, known as a siq.  
  • Catch a glimpse of the monumental tombs, palaces, temples and treasury, all hewn out of the rock - in beautiful hues of rose and gold.

Day 7: Petra - Wadi Rum (4x4 Jeep Ride)

 

Also known as the 'Valley of the moon', Wadi Rum is the largest and most magnificent of Jordan’s desert landscapes. Discover unexplored canyons where ancient Thamudic inscriptions and drawings carved into the rocks. Visit Lawrence’s Well, a Nabataean temple, desert oasis, and amazing rock bridges.

 

Breathtaking panoramic views stratch as far as the eye can see, and a sense of deep tranquillity pervades in this timeless place, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as 'vast, echoing and God-like...'

Day 8: Wadi Rum - Aqaba
