DAY 1: ARRIVE IN KEFLAVIK

Keflavik is a town located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, known for its strategic importance due to the presence of Keflavik International Airport, the country's largest airport.   • Car hire for 7 or 9 nights with unlimited mileage, CDW, theft protection and VAT (VW Golf or similar)
  • Minimum age: 20 years old to rent a car, 23 years old to rent a car of category 5.0 or higher
  • Pick-up and drop-off of the vehicle: Keflavik airport, on the day of arrival and the day of departure
  • The driver must hold a valid driving licence for at least one year at the time of hire.
  • A valid driver's licence from the United States, Canada or the European Union is required to drive in Iceland. A licence from another country may be used if it: a) has a valid licence number, b) shows the licence holder's photograph, c) is printed in the Latin alphabet and d) is valid at the time of travel. Vehicle pick-up and drop-off: Keflavik airport, on the day of arrival and on the day of departure.

- The driver must have held a valid driving licence for at least one year at the time of hire.

- A valid driving licence from the United States, Canada or the European Economic Area is required to drive in Iceland.

A driving licence from another country may be used if it :

(a) has a valid driving licence number,

(b) includes a photograph of the licence holder,

(c) is printed in the Latin alphabet and

(d) is valid at the time of travel.

Otherwise, an international driving licence is required.

 

Driving restrictions:

Hertz two-wheel drive vehicles are not permitted on roads marked "F" on official maps and on the roads to KJÖLUR (route no. 35), KALDIDALUR (route no. 550) and on the roads leading to Landmannalaugar.

 

Insurance

The rental price includes compulsory car insurance, i.e. third-party liability and accident insurance for the driver and owner.

 

In addition, the CDW (limited excess waiver) option is also included. This option limits the hirer's financial liability for damage to the Hertz vehicle, its parts and accessories, excluding theft, attempted theft or vandalism, provided that the vehicle is used per the conditions of the rental contract.

 

Examples not covered by insurance or for which you need special insurance:

- Damage caused by off-road driving or driving in water/river
- Damage to tyres and underside of vehicle.
- Damage caused by sandstorms or ash blowing against vehicles
- Damage to windscreen and headlights.

Lastly, theft insurance is also included: this option limits the hirer's financial liability in the event of loss or theft of the Hertz vehicle, its parts and accessories,
provided that the vehicle is used following the terms of the rental contract.
