The minimum age for driving a hire car in Australia is 21 and drivers must have held a full driving licence for a least 1 year.

The lead name on the booking will be confirmed as the named driver.  The named driver must present a credit card in their name when collecting the car (credit cards in other names will not be accepted).

The named driver must also present a full valid driving licence on collection of the vehicle and in some cases a credit card or cash deposit will be required.

Please ensure that you check your car hire documents carefully once received as this will advise if there are any taxes/charges to be paid locally as well as potential mileage restrictions.

Distances and drives
Drives and distances are indicative, and we recommend you buy a detailed map and check daily your itinerary.

If your license is in a language other than English it must be accompanied by a current international driving permit issued in the same country as the driver’s licence was issued.  An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an international driving permit.​​​​

Where to stay with your Campervan

You cannot just park up where you feel like to camp overnight. You will find many designated areas throughout all states and territories that do allow free or low-cost camping (with basic facilities)- Campsites generally cost between $20 (unpowered) and $60 (powered with facilities) depending on the location and the facilities.

We strongly recommend you stay at a caravan (RV) park. Australia has an extensive network of caravan parks in all major tourist centres and most towns. Caravan parks offer excellent recreational opportunities, plus essential shower and toilet facilities. Powered sites allow you to connect your vehicle to electricity and charge the battery; we suggest you connect to power at least every second night.

Booking ahead during peak season is recommended. In Australia, there are three major chains of caravan parks as well as a myriad of independent operators. For more information regarding caravan parks and their locations, get in touch with one of these major chains:

Pass and permit 
Whether you’re visiting during the day or staying overnight, some national parks charge an entry fee (generally those with high volumes of visitors) to raise funds for maintaining roads, facilities and other kinds of infrastructure projects. This money may also be put towards conserving threatened species and their natural habitats. Passes and permits can vary between vehicle passes, camping fees and annual passes, and it is up to you to obtain the correct kind of visitor pass for your intended stay.

Just as caravan parks tend to fill up quickly during school holidays and long weekends, so too can national parks, so we recommend pre-purchasing your pass and permits well in advance. If you book a package which includes flights, your contract will be with Voyage Privé. The air holiday package(s) shown are ATOL protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is 10170.

If you book a package which does not include flights, then ATOL protection does not apply. Your contract will be with the provider of the accommodation and not Voyage Privé. Voyage Privé acts only as agent for the accommodation provider.
