The siren call of Paratha Lane in Old Delhi – where food vendors make and sell parathas on the pavement in front of their tiny one-room cafes, stalls offer jewel-like fruit and vegetables, and smoke drifts from a thousand woks – is entirely seductive. It is exactly where you want to be.

The romance, artistry and sheer magnificence of India’s cultural heritage is encapsulated by the Taj Mahal and the great forts and palaces of Rajasthan. Jaipur and Udaipur are stage sets that conjure up storybook India, a land where fabulously wealthy Hindu kings fought and loved and indulged their fondness for pomp and ceremony.

Day 7 - JAIPUR

Visit Amer, ancient capital of Amber to explore the fabulous Amber Fort. Also visit the City Palace, Jantar Mantar Observatory and have a photo stop outside Hawa Mahal, the ‘Palace of Winds’. Later, accompanied by your host, visit the local vegetable market and hone your haggling skills as you buy local produce. Participate in the cooking demonstration at Umaid lake palace and enjoy the lunch you helped to cook. This evening, visit the lawns of Mehtab Bagh, the garden situated on the banks of river Yamuna flowing behind Taj Mahal. Mehtab Bagh offers a very different perspective to the Taj, which is lit by the brilliance of the setting sunset.

Dinner and overnight at Four Points by Sheraton.
Day 9 - AGRA

Early this morning, visit the majestic Taj Mahal - the pinnacle of Mughal architecture, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (1628-1658), in the memory of his queen Arjumand Bano Begum, entitled ‘Mumtaz Mahal’. Also visit The Red fort – A UNESCO world heritage site and another prominent example of Mughal architecture. Next visit the Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah and this place has special place in the chronicles of both history as well as architecture. This is precisely the very first tomb in India that is entirely made out of Marble. Later in the day, make a visit to an Indian home for a cookery lesson and Lunch.

Overnight at Four Points by Sheraton

The Taj has been so hyped through time that seeing it seems destined to be an anti-climax. But it isn't. The tomb's whiteness, its symmetry, its curves, majestic scale and exquisite detail are unreal.
