Surprises to be found in Asian treasure

Vietnam is fast becoming the tropical holiday destination of choice for travellers wanting to explore further afield. Tours of Vietnam will soon expose you to all the excitement, enchantment and beauty of this south east Asian gem. With more than 2,000 km of stunning coastline and beaches, Vietnam is the perfect destination for a beach holiday. For the culturally minded, and those who wish to get under the skin of the place, then the French colonial influence dating back to the mid 19th century in Vietnam’s cities and towns are an absolute magnet. And those visitors intrigued by history will find the culture that came to the world’s attention 50 years ago during the war that bore the country’s name fascinating. One thing’s for sure, on a Vietnam tour you will never be bored - there are surprises around every corner.

Life’s a beach

Choosing your location to make the most of Vietnam’s stunning and breathtaking 2,000 km of dramatic coastline will be difficult, simply because there are so many resorts to choose from. Don’t worry, either, about hotels - the country boasts an amazing selection of high quality hotels. Resorts to consider if you want the perfect, romantic beach holiday in Vietnam include Hoi An, Nha Trang and Danang.

Hustle and bustle of city life

Travellers on Vietnam tours who want a contrast to the relaxation of a beach holiday and are seeking a more vibrant destination have a choice of great cities at their disposal. The names Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, however, are the two that have the greatest pull for holidaymakers, and it’s not hard to see why. The ancient city of Hanoi (founded in 1010) has it all. It is the capital of Vietnam and is famed for its ancient architecture, boasting a very diverse culture with injections of influences from Asia, China and France. At the centre of Hanoi is the bustling Old Quarter, where the narrow thoroughfares are divided into trades. A visit here is not complete without a trip to the Dong Xuan market where the world famous street food must be sampled.

By contrast, Ho Chi Minh City is famous around the world for its key role in the Vietnam war. Otherwise known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is in the south of Vietnam and has amazingly well preserved French colonial architecture, which is an absolute pull for visitors on Vietnam tours. Among the buildings you must check out are the Notre Dame Basilica, which was constructed entirely from materials imported from France, and Saigon’s central post office. Like Hanoi, travellers must sample Vietnamese cuisine on the excellent food stalls in the bustling Ben Thanh Market.
