You will have the opportunity to visit Kazan, Moscow, Irkutsk and Ekaterimburgo, discover the region of Lake Baikal and with the optional extension, see Ulan-Udé & Vladivostok at the end of the route. The journey takes place on passenger trains: the train stops fairly regularly, every 4 hours, sometimes for a few minutes and other times for 30 minutes. During longer stops you will have the opportunity to get off, take a breath of fresh air, stretch your legs and explore!

Travelling in the luxury of the Imperial Russia train, visiting many of the largest historical and cultural centres of the vast Russian Empire, is an incredible way to journey through the heart of Russia. One of the most famous railways in the world, the Trans-Siberian Railway is thousands of kilometres long, running from the shores of the Baltic Sea to the shores of the Pacific Ocean, with an important junction to the Trans-Mongolian Railway.
11-Night Itinerary from Moscow to Irkutsk
Upon arrival into Moscow, you will be transferred to the hotel.
Day 2. Moscow
Breakfast. Check-out from the hotel. City Sightseeing Tour of Moscow. Doing this tour, you’ve got an excellent opportunity to learn the history of the Russian capital and see the most impressive sights of great historic and cultural value. The Red Square, one of the most spacious squares of the world, famous for Lenin’s Mausoleum and St. Basil Cathedral, and dominated by the grand Kremlin walls of red brick. You will have a chance to see the glanderous tower buildings symbolic of the Soviet Moscow, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior that was demolished and then reconstructed as a symbol of the Russian faith. After that we will visit the Moscow Subway (Metro) which spans almost the entire Russian capital. It is one of the world’s most heavily used metro systems. It is well known for the ornate design of many of its stations, which contain beautiful examples of socialist realist art. Lunch. Lunch at local restaurant. Evening transfer to the train station. Night train to Kazan (the train № 024М, 23:08-10:43 or similar).
Day 3: Kazan
After your comfortable night on the over night train, you will arrive into Kazan – the ancient capital of the Tartars, located on the banks of the Volga River, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. During the excursion to the city, you will visit the most interesting and ancient sightseeing in Kazan: Old-Tatar Sloboda, the Kaban Lake with its picturesque views, merchant houses, the old mosque of XVIII century. You will hear legends and stories of Tatar people, walk along the old Kazan and visit the monastery, where the miraculous Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is kept.
Enjoy lunch in one of the city restaurants with master class “Secrets of Tatar Cuisine”. After this, take a walking excursion to Kazan Kremlin, which will not leave anyone indifferent. Kazan Kremlin is a UNESCO world heritage site which walls united two religions – Moslem (Legendary Kuhl Sharif Mosque) and Orthodox (Annunciation Cathedral). You will get to touch the walls of Suyumbike falling tower before being transferred to your hotel.
Following breakfast, you will take an excursion to the city island Sviyazhsk which will include lunch. On the way to the island you will see the Temple of all Religions. The history of the city began on May 24, in 1551, when Ivan the Terrible decided to build on the island a wooden fortress. It took only four weeks. Sviyazhsk became a base supporting Russian troops in the war against the Kazan Khanate. The island has unique historical and cultural monuments, such as Assumption Monastery of the Blessed Virgin, Sviazhsky Cathedral, John the Baptist Monastery which has the Trinity Church on its territory - the only remaining building from wooden Sviyazhsk. Through many centuries Sviyazhsk has been remaining a Russian Orthodox shrine. After this excursion you will be transferred to the train station. Form here, you will take the train to Yekaterinburg (the train is No 378 20:08-12:22 or similar).
Day 5: Yekaterinburg
After your night onboard the train, you will arrive into Yekaterinburg. This is a city of great importance of the Russian Federation, located on the east-side the Ural mountains, which serve as a natural border. It was named after the wife of Tsar Peter the Great, Yekaterina, who later became empress Catherine I. Yekaterinburg became an industrial center of the country. After the Russian revolution in 1917 the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra and their children were executed by the Bolsheviks in the Ipatiev House in the city. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and then you will be transferred to the hotel. During the sightseeing tour you’ll see the neoclassic buildings of the town and the Obelisk which marks the Europe-Asia border.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and continue your exploration. You’ll carry on your tour of the city with the visit to the Geological Museum with its amazing collection of the meteorites; “Ganina Yama” - the place where the bodies of the members of the last Russian royal family were thrown after the assassination; the Presidential Center Boris Yeltsin and the panoramic view from the Vysotsky building. You can then enjoy lunch before having some free time to buy some snacks and drinks for the train trip. You will then be transferred to the train station for your overnight train to your next location (the train is No 056, 21:41-19:48 or similar).
Day 7: Aboard the Trans-Siberian
Today you will spend the day aboard the train. Breakfast and lunch will not be included but you will have the opportunity to enjoy enjoy meals at your own leisure.
Day 8: Krasnoyarsk
Upon arrival to Krasnoyarsk, you will visit the Natural Reserve “Stolby”. You will enjoy the panoramic views and guides’ stories about the Natural Reserve, which is an amazing site to visit in Krasnoyarsk. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the reserve or in the restaurant. Later in the afternoon, you'll continue driving down the forest road until you reach the observation point called “Tsar Fish”. Afterwards, you will take a stop on the quay in Divnogorsk, near the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, which is the second largest hydro power station in Russia. In the evening, check in and enjoy a night in the hotel.
Following breakfast, you will take the morning city tour of Krasnoyarsk, including Mira square with its outstanding views of Yenissey River, the monument to Andrew Dubenskoy, and Karaulnaya hill from where you can see the whole city spreading in front of your eyes. You will also visit Paraskeva Pyatnitsa chapel and walk along the old streets, before you are transferred to the train station for your onward train journey to Irkutsk (the planned train is No 070, 14:41-10:43 or similar).
Day 10: Irkutsk
After your evening journey, you will arrive into Irkutsk. You will proceed with a city sightseeing tour where you’ll be taken to see the historical centre, the monument to the discoverers of Siberia, the church of the Apparition of the Virgin, the main street of Irkutsk, and the monument to the Tsar Alexander III, before taking a walk along the quay of the Angara River. Lunch will then be at a local restaurant. Following this, you will continue with a visit to the tourist district of wooden houses before being transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay and free evening to yourself.
Day 11: Irkutsk
After breakfast, you will take a tour to the village Listvianka which is located on the shore of Lake Baikal about 70 km from Irkutsk. On your way you’ll visit the open-air museum of wooden architecture. You will arrive in Listvianka in time for lunch (including Baikal fish). During the sightseeing tour through the village, you’ll visit the Chaman-stone, the place where the Angara River is born; you’ll then take the chairlift to the viewpoint; visit the museum of Lake Baikal and the souvenir and fish market. After this, return to Irkutsk for your overnight stay in Irkutsk.
Day 12: Departure from Irkutsk
Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to the UK.
17-Night Itinerary from Moscow to Vladivostok
On these days, you will follow the same itinerary as the 11-night tour.
Day 12: Irkutsk - Ulan-Ude
In the morning, following your stay in Irkutsk, you will be transferred to the train station for the train to Ulan-Ude. This is the most beautiful part of the Trans-Siberian route that goes around Baikal Lake (the planned train is No2 or No8). Upon arrival to Ulan-Ude, you will meet with the local guide at the train station. Following this, you will embark on a half-day tour to the village of Old Believers that is called Tarbagatai, where you will have a lunch with the locals. You will then be transferred to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 13: Ulan-Ude
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a panoramic tour of Ulan-Ude and visit to Ivolginsky Datsan (the Buddhist temple located 23 km from the city). Following this, take lunch at the local restaurant, which will be followed by a transfer to the train station for your train to Khabarovsk (the planned train is No2 or No8). You will spend the night on board on the train, journeying to your next destination.
Today you will spend the day aboard the train. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to admire the beauty of the nature that passes you by. Overnight on the train.
Day 15: Khabarovsk
After a long journey by train, you will arrive into Khabarovsk. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay and free time at leisure.
Day 16: Khabarovsk
After breakfast at the hotel, you will take a morning sightseeing tour of the city during which you will see Muravyov-Amursky Street (the main street of the city), Lenin Square, Komsomolskaya Square, the Dormition Cathedral, the Khabarovsk Park named after Muravyov-Amursky and the Square of Gloria with the view towards the river Amur, the Transfiguration Cathedral and the seminary. Following this, you will continue with the boat ride down the Amur River.
Afterwards, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (no guide, no transport) before returning to the hotel at your own leisure. Spend some time visiting this city freely and in the afternoon, you will then be transferred to the train station for your overnight train to Vladivostok (the planned train is No 6).
Day 17: Vladivostok
Following the overnight journey by train, you will arrive at Vladivostok. You will then enjoy breakfast at a local café and panoramic tour of the city during which you will visit a viewpoint that is called Eagle’s Nest Hill with views towards the city and Zolotoy Rog. You will also get to see Central Square, Museum – C-56 submarine (with entrance fee included), Nicholas Triumphal Gates, St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Vladivostok Fortress (with entrance fee included). Following this, make the most of lunch at the local restaurant. You will then head to your hotel to have free time at leisure to relax or explore the city. We recommend walking through the pedestrian Admiral Fokín street that ends in the Gulf of Amur (the Japanese Sea). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 18: Departure from Vladivostok
After this amazing adventure, it is now time to head home. Transfer to the airport and take your departure flight back to the UK.
