Your Itinerary —
Once you have landed at Keflavik Airport, please pick up your luggage. Take the FlyBus Plus Airport Transfer to the CenterHotel Plaza (remember to let representative on your bus know which hotel you need for drop-off). Please note hotel check-in cannot be guaranteed before 2pm.
The rest of the day is open for your own activities. We suggest a walk in Old Town area with galleries, museums, restaurants and pubs. The hotel is located on Reykjavik's oldest street. You can visit the nearby 871AD Museum and see the excavated longhouse of the city's Viking settler, Ingolfur Amason, as well as learn about life in Iceland during Viking times. The Old Harbour area, a popular place for whale watching tours, original craft shops and cosy restaurants is also very close to the hotel. Geothermal swimming pools are popular here and a great way to meet Icelanders. The friendly and historical Vesturbaer pool is within walking distance from your hotel.
Breakfast at your hotel. Please be waiting outside your hotel at 8:30am for pick up for the South Shore Adventure day tour. This tour is ideal for nature and geology enthusiasts of all kinds, and it is beautiful all seasons of the year. Head along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country´s most scenic regions, as far as Vík, a charming village surrounded by high beautiful bird cliffs. The South Shore is one of the few areas of Iceland with no fishing industry; farming and horse ranching are the major activities. As you drive through this pretty area of volcanoes and glaciers, you‘ll see herds of Icelandic horses relaxing in the fields.
Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will visit a special place for Icelanders, the Secret Lagoon. The Secret Lagoon hot spring pool differs from the Blue Lagoon in that it is a more cosy, down to earth and authentic Icelandic experience. The Secret Lagoon is enjoyed both by Icelanders and visitors alike and is ideal for people who want to try a different type of Icelandic hot spring experience.
The morning is open for your own activities. Please be in the front of the hotel by 11:30am for hotel pick up. Enjoy an unguided transfer taking you through the beautiful scenery of South Iceland. Head to Flúðir, a town that uses the many hot springs of the area to grow organic vegetables year-round. The hot water also provides relaxation at one of Iceland‘s hidden treasures, the Gamla Lauginn, also known as the Secret Lagoon. This natural crystal-clear lagoon is one of the oldest natural geothermal pools in Iceland. It is surrounded by beautiful, active little geysers. One of them erupts every few minutes. Originally this natural pool was built in the 19th century to teach Icelanders in the rural area how to swim. Eventually a newer pool was built in Flúðir. The Secret Lagoon was upgraded to have modern changing rooms and facilities, but the original peaceful and down-to-earth atmosphere remains, along with the historical buildings.
You will be taken back to Reykjavik for 4.30pm.The hot water temperature is 36-40°C (97 – 104°F), providing pleasant relaxation good for your muscles and for your soul. There are also walking paths located in the area around the Secret Lagoon. These take you past various geysers and bubbling hot springs so you can discover more about the area‘s geology. We advise taking a walk in the area before you change to go into the water. (When taking the walk, dress warm for winter weather and wear good outdoor shoes).
