Then, head back to your hotel and enjoy free time for lunch at your own expense.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon will be spent with a visit to Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (closed every Monday), which offers an insight into the 54 different ethnic groups of Vietnam. Then transfer to the Old Quarters and visit the Saint Joseph Cathedral, the oldest church in Hanoi and Vietnam. Overnight in Hanoi.

Arriving at the village after about a 1 hour 30 minutes car drive, visit a local village to meet friendly villagers and see how locals make rice noodles and patties. This village has yet to be known by mass tourism. It will give you the opportunity to participate in the work with locals, see their rural life and chat with them to understand how they live and earn for their living.

Continue on the road to Ninh Binh and have lunch at a local restaurant upon arrival. Transfer to your hotel to check-in and relax.
In the afternoon, take the road to the Nham site which is still a little-known site for tourists to take a traditional boat trip in the poetic landscapes of Hai Nham situated among limestone peaks. On the way, stop to visit the impressive But cave. Continue the trip to Bich Dong pagoda (Jade pagoda) located on the side of Bich Dong Mountain and Ngu Nhac Son Range. Overnight in Ninh Binh.

Travel Advice

For the latest travel advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office including security and local laws, plus passport and visa information please click here.

Please note that the advice can change, and you should continue to check all advice until you travel.

Entry Requirements

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.

Until 30 June 2021, ‘British Citizen’ passport holders travelling for tourism can enter Vietnam for up to a maximum of 15 days (counting the dates of entry and exit) without a visa. If you have a different type of British nationality – for example ‘British national (overseas)’ you’ll need to get a visa before entering Vietnam.

If you’re planning to make multiple visits in a short period to Vietnam, consider applying for a multiple entry visa. You can’t get another 15-day visa waiver within 30 days of your last visit - you’ll need to get a visa or an e-visa to re-enter the country.

For longer durations of 16 to 30 days (for example if you arrive in Vietnam on 23rd August and leave on 7th September), you must get an e-visa online before you travel. The use of an e-visa is limited to certain entry/exit points which you must select at the time of application. E-visas are only applicable to ‘British Citizen’ passport holders.

For more information on entry requirements please go to https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/vietnam/entry-requirements

Health

For information about important health advice and any vaccinations required please visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice and https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

There are increased levels of dengue cases in 2019. Please be sure to check all health advice on the following link before travelling, paying particular attention to the 'Other Risks' section. This advice is subject to change.

If vaccinations or other preventive measures are required, you will need to visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip.

UK health authorities have classified Vietnam as having a risk of Zika virus transmission. For information and advice about the risks associated with Zika virus, visit the National Travel Health Network and Centre website.

If you’re taking prescription medication into Vietnam, carry it in your hand luggage with a copy of the prescription. If it has a total import value greater than US$100, you should declare it at customs.

Please note that passport, visa and health requirements can change. It is every traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport, any required visas, and all the necessary vaccinations/health requirements as well as adequate insurance.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the UK Government is currently requesting that all travellers returning to the UK, (with exceptions), must provide their journey and contact details up to 48 hours before arrival, and self-isolate at home for 14 days. These restrictions will be reviewed every three weeks. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel, and this advice is also being kept under constant review. Please note that this information is constantly being reviewed and may be subject to change.
