Day 2: Exploring the city
Set off for a half-day exploring the key highlights of the city. Visit the complex dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, the nation’s founder and affectionately known to the Vietnamese as “Uncle Ho”. Make the first stop at the historic Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, an imposing monument built to serve as the final resting place of Uncle Ho. Continue walking through the beautiful botanical garden of the Presidential Palace to visit Uncle Ho’s humble house, built based on a rural Vietnamese stilt house with simple design in a tranquil setting, reflecting his simple, pure and noble lifestyle. Tour the One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 of wood on a single stone pillar, designed to resemble a lotus blossom, the symbol of purity.
Visit the Temple of Literature, the first university of Vietnam. Constructed in the 11th Century, this stunning temple constitutes a rare example of well-preserved traditional Vietnamese architecture and is featured on the back of the 100,000 Vietnamese dong banknote. Lunch in a restaurant.
Hanoi's Old Quarter, known simply as the 36 Streets, is a must-see for anyone traveling to Vietnam. With a history dating back to about the 13th Century, it used to be a residential, manufacturing, and commercial center where each street was specialized in one specific type of manufacturing or commerce. Explore the fascinating maze of back streets and challenge yourself by strolling through the dark and tiny alleys that are wide enough for one medium-sized Vietnamese only. Walk around Dong Xuan Market, the biggest wholesale market in the Old Quarter, while enjoying the tantalizing sights, smells, and flavors of local Vietnamese products. Continue to O Quan Chuong, the only one of the 5 gates that once surrounded Thang Long citadel, which remains a real "square gate".
Then, if time permits, visit Long Bien market, set up under the eponym bridge, is the most fascinating place in the city. This market is ranked by the American magazine Conde Nast Traveller in its list of the 7 most attractive markets in the world. Visit Long Bien Bridge, formerly called Paul-Doumer Bridge. It was built during the French Indochina colonization period by the company Daydé & Pillé (a company absorbed by the Eiffel group). Overnight in Hanoi.

Known as a prosperous trading port between the 15th and 19th Century, the riverside town of Hoi An still retains many remnants of its glorious time as evident in the bustling market and abundance of souvenirs and tailor shops. What makes Hoi An is remarkable is that its Old Quarter has been beautifully preserved. The streets still lined with old tile-roofed shop houses, shady pagodas, and colorful communal halls that contribute to its status as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Take a guided walking tour around Hoi An Ancient Town. Visit the Japanese covered bridge, Chinese assembly hall, a typical Vietnamese merchant’s house, one of the interesting museums and the local market. There’re numerous art galleries, souvenirs and tailor shops where you can get some express made-to-order clothes if you like. The next visit is to home of a craftsman in the old streets. Today, enjoy a leisure boat trip along Thu Bon river to Hoi An’s countryside. Exchange boat for bicycle and start cycling through winding village roads while enjoying the idyllic countryside scenery. Stop at a local shipbuilding workshop and chat with the owner who has perfected his craft, learning it from the river boat-makers before him. Geographically featured as the gateway to the Delta, Ben Tre is an ideal gem for travelers who are seeking a glimpse of agrarian river life.
Today, escape from the high-energy city and set off for a memorable day of exploring Ben Tre province, the gateway to the Delta, by the charming Apricot Boat that features the combination of modernity and tastefully traditional riverboat style. Join our dedicated crew for a slow journey that brings you to all the colorful aspects of Mekong Delta: beautiful natural landscape filled by tropical fruit farms and rice paddies.
Shore excursions include the home of a tropical fruit farmer, the family-run business where almost every part of the coconut is used for candies and crafts. Travel on the narrow village lanes by traditional tuk-tuk or bicycle passing through sleeping village, local cottage industries, canals, and fruitful orchards. Followed by a ride by traditional rowing boat, gain an up-close experience of the network of narrow canals typical of the Mekong Delta. One of the highlights of the trip is to meet the local farmers and engage in a friendly chat with them to understand their daily farming tasks.

Day 10: Can Tho – Cai Rang Floating Market – Ho Chi Minh
This morning, depart your hotel and travel to the riverfront directly across from the famed Cai Rang floating market – the market itself has shrunk over the years thanks to the development of roads and bridges, however, it is still fascinating to watch the wholesale boats navigate the river.
Enjoy a local cup of traditional coffee, while having the opportunity to take some colorful pictures. Then, you are taken to a nearby rice noodle factory, where you view the process of manufacture – the owners may well be coming to the end of their working day and hanging the ‘noodle pancakes’ out to dry – again some great photo opportunities here.
Travel to a small village on the outskirts of Can Tho where you visit a Cacao farm, meet the owner, and view the whole process of chocolate creation, from bean to bar.
