Optional excursions —
Discover the city of Bangkok
Discover two of Bangkok's most important sites: Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. Wat Pho, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, houses a 46-metre-long gold-leafed reclining Buddha, while the glittering Grand Palace, a perfect example of an ancient Siamese court, stands on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and is a must-see for every visitor to Bangkok.
The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) is located within the palace grounds. Next, we board a boat for a relaxing cruise along the Chao Phraya River - the river of kings. Along the way, we'll get a glimpse of canal-side life - rickety wooden houses on stilts and serene temples on the water's edge - giving us an insight into a slower, older way of life and why the city has been dubbed the "Venice of the Orient".
A stop at Wat Arun, one of Bangkok's most photographed sites, will allow us to stretch our legs and admire the gleaming pagoda. It rises 76 metres into the sky and is covered with glazed ceramic pieces that reflect the rising sun, hence its name: Temple of Dawn.
The lost temple of Angkor - Exploring Banteay Srei & Beng Mealea
Start the day with a transfer to Banteay Srei "The citadel of women", the only major temple not built by a monarch. Originally built in the 10th century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, this red sandstone temple is one of Angkor's most important structures, as its walls are decorated with elaborate carvings that have been remarkably well preserved.
This afternoon, enjoy a pleasant drive through lush countryside to the jungle temple of Beng Mealea, a Hindu temple but with some carvings representing Buddhist motifs. The temple is largely unrestored, with trees and vegetation growing through its towers and courtyards, and many of its stones lying in large heaps, giving it an enchanting atmosphere.
Away from the usual tourist circuits, this isolated temple offers a fascinating opportunity to discover a ruined Angkor temple, surrounded by dense jungle, allowing you to stay away from the crowds.
Mount Phnom Kulen & Kampong Phluk floating village
This morning, enjoy a scenic drive to Mount Phnom Kulen, considered Cambodia's holiest mountain, has deep roots in Khmer tradition, dating back to 802 AD.
Continue your afternoon visit to the floating village of Kampong Phluk, one of Tonle Sap Lake's most impressive and unspoiled permanent installations. Home to over 3,000 villagers, this charming village gives you a close-up view of the submerged mangrove forest and lakeside village life.
Climb aboard the local boat for a relaxing and instructive cruise. Immerse yourself in nature and get a glimpse of the diverse village lifestyle on the lake as your boat glides between mangroves, stilt houses, the floating school and the police station.
Watch floating life unfold as it does everywhere else in Cambodia. Get your camera ready to capture the panoramic view of Tonle Sap Lake, local women or children crossing the river channel, or villagers selling and buying produce at a makeshift floating market.
