The Royal Grand Palace, with its collection of pavilions and golden spires, can only be described as an oriental masterpiece. Inside the Royal Chapel, there is the Emerald Buddha, which has been carved from a solid piece of jade. The palace is a true architectural masterpiece, consisting of several buildings from the outside and a magical inside, which was used as a royal residence from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. It is without any doubt a national reference and possibly the most visited royal monument of Thailand, which shouldn͛t be missed. To round off the tour, we call in at a local lapidary factory and showroom where you will be able to get locally made jewellery, handicrafts and silk at competitive prices.
Start your day at the world-famous floating market of "Damnern Saduak", which is located about 100 kilometres southwest of Bangkok. On the way to the floating market, take a visit at a coconut Sugar Farm - look around the farmhouse and see how they process the coconut sugar. You can also taste a few things prepared freshly there. There are countless floating markets throughout the country, many within a couple of hours of the capital. The colourfully clad merchants at these lively markets paddle along congested canals in sturdy canoes laden with fresh fruits and vegetables to sell to shoppers on the banks. There is a lot of chatter and activity - bargaining is common - that's all part of the fun - but don't expect to get the price down more than a few baht. From fruits and flowers to everyday needs, it leaves nothing to be desired, although it is now somewhat over commercialised. You visit the lively market at its best early in the morning, before the crowds arrive and the day's heat breaks. This is an exciting and fun way to see the local life and to go bargain hunting.
"Hong" means room in Thai, and the visit to this peaceful and untouched island allows you to enjoy the crystal clear water, unspoiled nature as well as fish and coral. The attractions in the trip are Hong Island, Lading Island, Pak Bia Island and a visit to the swallow bird preservation area. Light and easy trip to one of the most famous destinations used to be the filming site for many commercial products (Thai Airways, Thai Tourist Authority, Frito Lay etc.)
