Your Destinations

The very mention of Zanzibar - the beautiful and historical spice island lying just off the coast of Tanzania - is enough to conjure up a multitude of mental images that are both exotic and striking. It is this emotional reaction that has caused this Indian Ocean island to become one of the world’s most sought-after holiday destinations.

A diver or beach lover's paradise, the famous 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar is a luxurious and exotic destination, where there's plenty to discover away from the stunning beaches. The island's capital, Stone Town, is a captivating labyrinth of narrow streets and winding alleyways. Lose yourself in the buzz of the markets, delight your senses in the bustling bazaars, and check out the many mosques and grand Arab residences.

Your Optional Tanzania Safari

Tarangire

South of Lake Manyara and just over 100km from Arusha, this is a delightful, untamed gem of a park. Covering 2,600 sq km, it abounds with game and the numerous wide-bowed baobab trees create a lasting impression. This area is best for oryx, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, elephant and eland but leopards and massive pythonsare also found here.

Lake Manyara

From whichever direction you approach Manyara, the first view is spectacular. From the east, the Rift Valley wall rises several hundred metres to form an impressive backdrop to the lake. From the west, if one is perched at the top of the escarpment, the park lies far below, with a long green strip of water that glistens in the sunlight.

You can always find hippo in the Simba River, elephant in the forests and a resident herd of Cape buffalo on the open plains  at Mahali Pa Nyati, which means, ‘the place of the buffalo’ in Swahili. In addition, there are approximately 400 species of birds and with some luck you might see tree-climbing lions.

Your Itinerary

4-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro - Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met by someone from the team and then transferred to Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Arusha - Tarangire National Park
You'll depart from Arusha after breakfast for approximately a two hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way you'll pass bustling Maasai villages and the vast, open plains that have become synonymous with images of Africa.

The park consists of natural vegetation mainly of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals during Tanzania's dry season. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa.

Driving through the parks you'll also have the opportunity to see lions, leopards, cape buffalo, and a huge variety of antelopes. If you're particularly lucky, you might even see endangered animals such as the Greater Kudu or the Fringe-Eared Oryx.

Day 3: Manyara National Park - Arusha
Enjoy an early morning breakfast followed by game drives in Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is known for its tree-climbing lions and has the most pachyderms per km sq. in Tanzania. As visitors enter the gate, they pass into the lush forest, home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Buffaloes and hippos also lurk in the adjacent Hippo pool. The vegetation eventually merges into a flat topped acacia woodland where, in the heat of the day, lions can be seen stretched on the branches of these trees - a habit prevalent to the Manyara lions.

Towards the late afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Arusha - Kilimanjaro Airport to Zanzibar
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will get transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport to take your flight back to Zanzibar.

Dinner and night.

Day 2: Arusha - Tarangire National Park or Lake Manyara (depending on the season)
After breakfast, you will depart from Arusha for around two hours to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, you will pass animated Maasai villages and vast open plains that have become synonymous with images of Africa. The park is made up of natural vegetation composed mainly of Acacia woodlands and giant African baobabs, with huge swampy areas to the south. The river and marshes act as a magnet for wild animals during the dry season in Tanzania. Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of Africa's largest herds of elephants. While browsing the parks, you will also have the opportunity to see lions, leopards, Cape buffalo and a wide variety of antelopes. If you are particularly lucky, you may even see endangered animals, such as the Great Kudu or the Fringed Oryx.
OR
After breakfast, you leave Arusha for around two and a half hours to Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is known for its climbing lions and has the highest number of pachyderms per square kilometer in Tanzania. When visitors enter the door, they enter the lush forest where baboons and blue monkeys live. Buffaloes and hippos are also present. The vegetation eventually melts in the wood of acacias, where we can see lions lying on the branches of these trees - a widespread habit among the lions of Manyara.
Day 3: Karatu - Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park, passing through the beautiful Karatu Farmland and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind us, we descend to the heart of wild Africa - the Serengeti National Park - with its endless plains. We head towards the central area of the park, known as the Seronera Zone, one of the richest habitats in the park, along with the Seronera River, which is a source of precious water for this area and therefore attracts wildlife. well representative of most species of Serengeti. We arrive on time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon safari in the park.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, walk to observe the game along the Sogore River, which makes a loop in the plains south of the Seronera River, you can see the lion, gazelle, ostrich and cheetah. In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic in the shade of giant acacias, or a hot lunch at the lodge. After lunch, we will follow the Kopjes circuit, which runs counter-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attracts a number of incredibly large lions and cobras. The Kopjes are granite rocks, scattered throughout the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water after the rains. This makes kopjes particularly interesting for watching wildlife during the dry season - including lions, who like to wait for animals to come and drink! Guests can opt for a hot-air balloon excursion (with extra charge on site).

Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Arusha
Morning breakfast followed by a drive back from Serengeti to Karatu via the Ngorongoro Highlands. It is a panoramic route offering the possibility to observe the migration depending on the season. Lunch in Karatu, then drive back to Arusha.
Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

Day 6: return
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight.

Please note: drinks are not included in the lodges of your safari.
