Your Itinerary —
Upon arrival into Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be met by your chauffeur guide and will be transferred to your hotel in Colombo (1 hour transfer). Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2: Colombo to Habarana
After breakfast, hop on an eccentric three-wheeled taxis and get the rawest experience of your life, learning about the history, beauty and heritage of chaotic Colombo. Sit back as this mini-sized taxi journeys through the tangled Colombo streets to its biggest attractions, friendliest shops and the best kept secrets, all guided by an English speaking driver. After heading our on the tuktuk excursion, you will continue your journey to Habarana (Transfer Time (Colombo to Habarana): approximately 4h 30 mins. Check into your hotel & spend rest of the day at leisure.
Day 3: Habarana to Sigiriya to Minneriya
After breakfast at the hotel, begin the morning by climbing the rock fortress of Sigiriya - a 5th Century ‘Fortress in the Sky’. Built by King Kassapa the fortress was a Royal Citadel for more than 18 years. Sigiriya, also called the lion rock (UNESCO World Heritage Site) stands 200 metres above the scrub jungle. The base of the rock is ringed by a moat and rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens. The majestic Lion’s Paw picturesquely guards the stairway of the palace on the summit. See the famous frescoes of the ‘Heavenly maidens’ of Sigiriya in a sheltered pocket of the rock and the 10-foot-high Mirror Wall.
In the afternoon, head to Minneriya National Park for a Game Drive (3 hours). Minneriya National Park, shelters some of the greatest wildlife treasures of this paradise isle. As the ‘Sixth Greatest Wildlife Spectacle of the World’ – the amazing phenomenon of the ‘Minneriya Elephant gathering’ occurs during August – September. The Minneriya national park is one of the best places in the country to see wild elephants, which are often present in huge numbers, and wading birds. Dominated by the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park has plenty of forests and wetlands in its 88.9 sq. km to also provide shelter for toque macaques, sambar deer, buffalo, crocodiles and leopards. Overnight at your hotel.
Today you will experience a Village Visit in Hiriwaduna (Transfer Time: Approximately 15 minutes). Just a 15-minute drive away from the comforts of your hotel, lies a scenic native village with its unpaved gravel paths and humble village folk. Admire the line of cormorants flying into formation that will stop to rest on a cormorant tree. Marvel at the butterflies and dragonflies found at the edge of the shrubs, creating a kaleidoscope of colour that rivals the equally vibrant wild flowers.
As you walk further along the lake bund, witness the silent and still waters of the reservoir rippled by a lone fisherman mounted on his catamaran. Experience the reservoir as the fishermen would do by taking a catamaran ride on the reservoir, and glide through the still waters and abundant lotus plants. At the end of the catamaran ride, experience another form of ancient village transport and take a ride in a bullock cart to end the experience of a life time. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 5: Habarana to Kandy
After breakfast, you will set off on your journey to the Last Kingdom of Sri Lanka - Kandy (Transfer Time: Approximately 2h 30 mins). In the afternoon, you will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic including a City Tour in Kandy. The Temple of the Tooth which is commonly known as "Sri Dalada Maligawa" is situated in the city of hills, Kandy. It is an important shrine for Buddhists as it holds the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. It is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. The most important part of the Dalada Maligawa is the octagon (Pathirppuwa). The Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred temple in the whole of Sri Lanka. Thousands of people line up each day to get a glimpse of its majesty. The rest of your day will be at leisure. Overnight stay at your hotel.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kandy train station where you may to hop on board to the local train which is how the British used to travel during the colonial times in the late 1800's. This is an optional excursion payable locally - ideal to witness the beautiful ride along forests, villages, waterfalls and tea fields.
Upon arrival at Nanu Oya station, you will meet your driver who will transfer you to your hotel. En-route to your next location, visit a Tea Plantation and a working tea factory where you will get to witness the authentic Ceylon tea production process. Overnight at your hotel
Day 7: Nuwara Eliya to Beruwala
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Beruwala (Transfer Time: Approximately 5h 30mins. Check into your hotel & spend rest of the day at leisure.
Day 8-9: Beruwala
Spend your time in Beruwala at leisure. Stroll along the beach, enjoy a host of activities or make the most of the facilities at your hotel. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 10: Depart from Beruwala
As all good things must come to an end, take your transfer to the airport for your departure flight home (Transfer Time: Approximately 2 hours).
