The Colonial District is the place to start your discovery. Carrying plenty of heritage from the city’s time as a British colony, here you’ll find the National Museum of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum, and Fort Canning Park, which is believed to be the burial site of the Kings of ancient Singapore! Nearby, Little India is the place to go for an assault on the senses, the centre of Singapore’s Indian community - wander past stalls selling spices, incense, and saris, and soak up its vibrant atmosphere.
For a taste of Singapore’s modern city atmosphere, head to Marina Bay, which is unmissable thanks to the colossal Marina Bay Sands hotel complex and Gardens by the Bay, a 101-hectare garden where you can walk past ‘supertrees’ and experience an indoor waterfall. As the sun goes down, the Chinatown Street Market is the place to be, where you can purchase a souvenir or try some of the city’s best street food.
Ubud
When you think of Bali, images of Ubud's towering temples and lush, green rice terraces are often dreamt up. While the centre of Ubud's town is busy with tourists, traditional craft shops and cultural landmarks, the real draw of Ubud lies in its tranquil outskirts, which are rich in hypnotic and stunningly scenic natural beauty.
As the heartland of the island, Ubud is ideal for both those who want a total escape from their daily life, and those who wish to uncover the ancient secrets of Balinese culture.
Undoubtedly, a must-see spot on any tourist's list is the Ubud Monkey Forest, where over 700 long-tailed macaques share their spiritual home with daily visitors. In addition to the lively residents, the forest boasts 186 different species of tree and several sacred temples. Another Ubud highlight is the Tegallalang Rice Terrace, a prime photo-stop that showcases some of the most beautiful terraced fields in all of Southeast Asia.
We highly recommend heading here to enjoy the absolute best of Bali's nature - it also promises a cool, breezy atmosphere which is more than welcome following a break at the beach.
