1. Souq Waqif
Souq Waqif is a historic trading hub in Doha, that has been restored to preserve Qatar's heritage. The market is juxtaposed against the backdrop of Doha's dramatic and modernist skyline. Souq Waqif’s winding alleys offer a tableau of traditional street life. Souq Waqif is also home to the Falcon Souq, where you can see the majestic birds up close and pose with a falcon perched on your arm.
2. National Museum of Qatar
Be awed by the desert-rose-inspired National Museum of Qatar, where interactive displays bring the country’s past to life. Built around Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani’s original palace, the National Museum of Qatar charts the country’s history and progress through the centuries. The internationally renowned Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is the crown jewel of Qatar’s museums. The museum contains four floors of permanent and temporary exhibitions, a gift shop, a café and an haute cuisine restaurant IDAM by renowned chef Alain Ducasse, on the fifth floor. It is also home to a heritage library, with a collection of 21,000 books including 2000 rare editions in both Arabic and English. The lush MIA park next to the museum overlooks the Arabian Sea, and is a favourite spot for family picnics, walking, running or outdoor yoga classes.
7. Education City
Education city hosts campuses of leading universities and top tier schools, along with a beautiful park, an abundance of sports facilities, numerous food options, a golf club, a technologically advanced library, a modern art museum, and a few of the most remarkable buildings in the country.
8. Dahl Al Misfir
Located west of Doha, in the centre of the peninsula, Dahl Al Misfir is one of Qatar’s most exciting natural sites. At 40 metres deep, it is considered the largest and deepest, yet accessible cave in Qatar. Formed largely of fibrous gypsum, it sometimes gives off a faint, otherworldly glow.
9. Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque
As the largest mosque in Qatar, Imam Abdul Wahhab, also known as the Qatar State Grand Mosque, was inaugurated in 2011. Its simple lines and graceful arches are nonetheless eye-catching and characteristic of Islamic architectural tradition. The mosque houses three libraries, separate prayer and ablution halls for men and women, and special halls for Quran memorisation, and can hold over 30,000 worshippers.
10. Khor Al Udaid Beach
This area of southern Qatar is one of the most unusual yet attractive destinations imaginable.
Wonderful to observe and fun to drive across, the dunes reach dizzying heights of up to 40 metres. The beach becomes much more like a resort on the shore of a lake in the morning, as water advances onto the desert to form what the unique inland sea.
Maldives
