A real cultural melting pot thanks to its centuries of history, Lisbon is the cosmopolitan capital of Portugal and is the perfect place for an exciting city trip. Bursting with charming features such as its famous traditional tramways, cable cars, and authentic neighbourhood restaurants, your Lisbon experience is sure to be exciting and memorable.
No trip to the city would be complete without visiting the lively neighbourhood of Bairro Alto, an area filled with cobbled lanes and eclectic bars, as well as vibrant history - this area dates back to the 16th century, and it’s worth seeing the magnificent Baroque interior of the São Roque church. Afterwards, grab an iconic pastel de nata from Pastéis de Belém, the birthplace of the pastry, before wandering over to the imposing Belém Tower on the shores of the Tagus river.
If you’re looking to escape the city, take an atmospheric boat trip along the river towards the Douro Valley, where you can taste some of the world’s finest wine. Return to Lisbon’s centre refreshed, and catch a sunset over the city’s seven hills from the 1st century BC São Jorge Castle - Lisbon is truly a unique mix of intriguing history, delicious cuisine, and Portuguese passion!
Cascais
The former fishing village gained fame as a resort for Portugal's royal family in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Nowadays, it is a popular holiday spot for both Portuguese and international tourists. Here, you will discover plenty of beautiful beaches such as Praia dos Pescadores, Praia da Rainha and Guincho beach. The village itself houses some beautiful examples of early Portuguese architecture including the pretty village centre.
Should you wish to travel a little further, Cascais is roughly 32 km from lively Lisbon - one of Europe’s most attractive cities with so much to see and do.
