The region of Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, is famous for its frankincense, camels, touristic sights and the seasonal weather, locally known as “Khareef” or monsoon. During the Khareef Salalah witnesses, its best period with light drizzles of rain cooling air and ensuring its hills are clothed in lush greenery and surrounded by white fog. There is a distinctive natural diversity where the coast blends into the mountains and desert in a wonderful harmony. The mountains appear as a fertile crescent, rising to a height of some 1,500 metres and then descending steeply to meet a flat plain embracing the beaches which stretch for hundreds of kilometres.

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF SALALAH
Discover the highlights of Salalah including The Museum of the Land of Frankincense, which opened in July 2007 at Al Balid Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Salalah.
This museum is the latest addition to the Oman heritage and cultural scene and offers a brief history of the ancient incense trail as well as the development of Oman's rich marine history.
After your exciting and educational trip to the museum, you will then cross the green plantations of vegetables and fruits along the outskirts of the old town of Salalah (Haffah). Take a photo stop at the impressive Sultan Qaboos Mosque, visit the official palace of His Majesty the Sultan (Al Husn Palace) and stroll through the old souk of Haffah - this region is famous for selling high-quality incense and many other traditional souvenirs of Dhofari.
You will also get to enjoy the incense-infused Haffah souk - the perfect place to do your shopping!
SALALAH (EAST TO WEST)
See the ancient ruins of the famous city of Sumharam (Khor Rohri) - This city was the most eastern outpost of the Hadramawt kingdom - on the ancient incense road - between the Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf and India.
Khor Rori was an important port on the coast of Dhofar and one of the major trading cities with incense, which would have been the hub and port for the shipment of incense (World Heritage Site of the UNESCO). A scenic route then takes you to Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the Incense Trail.
Stroll through the streets lined with ancient Omani mud houses and visit Bin Al's two-domed tomb. This is a classic example of medieval architecture.
On the way back to the west of Salalah, explore the natural spring of Ayn Razat and the Qara Mountains before stopping at the old tomb of the Prophet Job, located in the beautiful green mountains of the plains of Salalah.
Our members will continue on to Mughsail Beach and along the western border of Oman. There may be some stops along the way - including the Mughsail lagoon - where you can capture the scenery and marvel at the many migratory birds also passing through.
Enjoy spending time sailing the waters of Sidab - where you will spot these majestic animals as they are on the lookout for tuna, mackerel and sardines! You will be amazed and blown away by their fascinating behaviours!
