Your Itinerary —
Explore the scenic town of Alta from your hotel. This charming town has a quieter aura than popular Tromso, offering visitors a really authentic Norwegian experience. The world's first Northern Light observatory was built here at the end of the 19th century and has earned Alta the name: "The Town of the Northern Lights."
Are you ready to try authentic dog sledding? Be picked up at one of the meeting points in Alta and be dropped off afterwards. Warm thermal suits, mittens, hats and winter boots are provided. Remember to bring your own warm woollen or fleece underwear. Provide brief and precise instructions about how to drive a dog sled before entering the dog enclosure, where many happy Alaskan huskies are waiting to meet you. Each dog has its own kennel with its name on it. You will be given a list of the names of the dogs that will be in your dog team, and then it’s time to get started. The harnesses hang in fixed places so it is just a case of finding the right dog. When everything is ready and dogs will be eager to set off.
Open the gates and head into the forest, where it is tranquil and you can enjoy the enthusiastic dogs, the weather and the nature. One of the guides leads the way and you follow behind. During this trip, drive in the forest, open landscapes and beside Alta River or on frozen sections. Two people ride per sled; one musher and one who sits on the sled. Stop and swap places en route. After a while return to the kennel. The dogs need to be returned to their respective kennels, and you help with this.
Then it’s time to relax around an open fire with a hot drink and home baking to eat. Your guides on this trip have trained the dogs all autumn and winter and also competed in some sled dog races, from shorter races right up to the world’s longest sled dog race.
Included: Transfer to/from downtown Alta, warm clothing, shoes, coffee/ tea and homemade cake
In a private minibus, go out to hunt for the magnificent Northern Lights. From September to the end of March, you can see and experience the Northern Lights, join the guide and hunt for the aurora. If you are interested in the Northern Lights and local history the trip will be perfect for you.
Depending on the weather you can explore different parts of Alta, the coastline and maybe the areas were the Sami people lives. The guide has knowledge about the Northern Lights, basic photo knowledge, and can also tell you about the culture and history of Alta, and how it has been to grow up with the aurora borealis. During the trip, you will have time to enjoy the silence and the winter darkness on your way to find the northern lights. The guide will ensure that you’re having a great time, answer all your questions and also help you with your own camera. The minibus takes maximum 7 people so you won't be a crowd. Sorrisniva does however reserve the right to use a bigger bus with 16 seats.
Included: Local guide, hot beverage and snack and gloves
