Your Destination

Northern Italy Lake District
In the north of Italy you will find a string of narrow, glacial lakes set magnificently between alpine foothills, straddled by the border of Switzerland - a place of such exquisite natural beauty that you will wonder why you have not been before.

The most famous lakes in Italy’s Lake District, from west to east, are Lake Maggiore, Lake Como and Lake Garda, each beautiful in their own right. Imagine vistas of crystal blue waters shining silky-smooth in the sun, set against plummeting alpine mountains and dotted with sleepy cobblestone villages - then you will have some idea of the Italy that will steal your heart.

Sail past the charming stone cottages with their balconies resting over the blue lake waters and the monasteries clinging to the lake-side rock. Wander through the narrow alleyways of the rustic villages, taste divine Italian ice-cream in the secluded gardens or sit beside the lake and marvel at the jaw-dropping views set against the exotic flora.

This spectacular destination is one of Italy’s jewels and its abundant natural beauty will stay with you forever.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Lake Maggiore
Head to your hotel accommodation at Hotel Simplon in Baveno. We suggest, along with this route, visiting Arona and Vercelli known for their rice cultivation. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2, 3 (on the 5 night tour) and 4 (on the 7 night tour): Lake Maggiore
You have a full day to visit Lake Maggiore. Here the good weather throughout the year favours a typical Mediterranean background. From Stresa, you can reach the beautiful examples of Italian gardens of "Isole Borromeo" (Isola Madre and Isola Bella). Along the lake, towards Pallanza, near Punta Castagnola, you will find Villa Taranto, famous for its beautiful park. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 (on the 5 night tour) or Day 5 (on the 7 night tour): Lake Como
Choose to pass through the former hamlet of Tremezzo to the Villa Carlotta. The villa also overlooks Lake Como in a particularly privileged position. It is known for its enchanting geographical position, but also for its botanical garden. The building dates back to 1600 and was built by Giorgio Clerici. Incredible are some minor sculptures by Canova that are still inside the Italian gardens that surround the house. Within the botanical garden, you can see as many as 150 different species of azaleas. Return to hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6 (on the 7 night tour): Lake Como
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day dedicated to Lake Como where you could even take a boat trip to explore the surroundings. This would depart from Cadenabbia and arrival in Bellagio. Once in Bellagio, you can visit its famous villas, Villa Serbelloni with its convent of the Cappuccini, Villa Melzi and the Basilica of San Giovanni that deserve a visit. Overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 5 (on the 5 night tour) or 7 (on the 7 night tour): Lake Como
Enjoy Breakfast and a free day to explore Lake Como before you head back for your departure flight home.
