A 4 day Drive & Discover self-drive adventure holiday featuring some of Iceland’s most dramatic waterfalls, glaciers and geysers rounded off with a night in Reykjavik.
You'll take in Skogafoss & Seljalandfoss: Iceland’s most dramatic plunge falls; Dyrholaey:the signature rock arch marking Iceland’s southernmost tip; Jokulsarlon Lagoon with its luminous blue icebergs; Þingvellir valley; Gullfoss, the eponymous Geyser and volcanic crater Kerið.
Reykjavik is simply ‘Latitude with Attitude' dominated by Hallgrimskirkja’s figurative basalt lava spire, Harpa Hall’s kaleidoscopic glass cubes and Perlan’s revolving dome. The perfect place to chillax on your final night and enjoy food to die for.
Your Itinerary —
Day 1: UK- Iceland
Fly to Keflavik International Airport from UK, collect hire car on arrival and drive to Hella. Check in for 3 nights at Hotel Ranga. Dinner at the hotel.
Suggested itinerary: after breakfast drive along the southeast coast across bridges fording dramatic outwash plains interspersed with black sand beaches and lava fields to Jokulsarlon Lagoon. The Lagoon’s luminous blue icebergs tinted with black volcanic dust float in the Lagoon for several years, gradually self-sculpting themselves in to different shapes before finally working their way out to sea.
Suggested itinerary: Drive along to the foot of Myrdalsjokull where you will be kitted out in protective clothing and driven by Super Jeep on to the glacier for a snowmobile tour across it. Afterwards take in Skogafoss, Seljalandfoss or Dyrholaey if you missed any of them the previous day.
Drive up to Laugarvatn Spa for a steam bath in the manner of the locals and then to the Geyser area where Strokkur spouts 40m high every 5 to 10 minutes alongside steaming fumaroles, hot springs and mud pools. Continue to Gullfoss, the ‘golden falls’, where the glacial river Hvítá plummets 32 metres before torrenting down a large gorge between the Mid-Atlantic Ridge’s tectonic plates. Then slowly through the Þingvellir valley and into Reykjavik. Drop off your car, transfer to Hotel Natura or Foss Hotel Reykjavik for a final night.
Day 5: Day in Reykjavik - Flight home to the UK
Leave the city after breakfast for a valedictory bathe in the Blue Lagoon before transferring to Keflavik International Airport for your return flight to UK.
Hotel Ranga —
You will be staying for 3 nights in a Standard Room on a bed & breakfast board basis with 1 x complimentary supper and welcome drink

Rooms have everything you need including flat screen TV; free Wi-Fi; telephone; bathtub or shower, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers; minibar; coffee and tea-maker; 24 hour room service, laundry and wake-up service. Centre stage in the hotel’s restaurant is a signature Surf & Turf dish translated into an herbaceous roast lamb paired with meaty, buttery steamed lobster, and a skyr dessert that’s to die for.
Notwithstanding everything that’s gone on here over the years the hotel has kept its very personal owner driven style and ambience. Never one to let meadow land grass grow under his feet(!), Fredrik recently oversaw the building of an observatory with two 11-inch Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain computerized telescopes from which you can see even the detail of Saturn’s rings..
Fosshotel Reykjavik or Hotel Natura —
You will be staying for 1 night in either of these hotels on the last night of your trip.
Both hotels been recently refurbished so you will have a comfortable and Stylish final night in the heart of Iceland's capital.

The return of the vehicle must be made before or at the same time as you rented on the first day. If you arrive later, even a few minutes, an additional day will be charged on the credit card.
