Day 2: Golden Circle & Borgarnes
Enjoy a lovely breakfast at your hotel and then, head out to start your journey. Explore the Golden Circle, a must-see which includes breathtaking natural sites: the geysers of Geysir and Strokkur, the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, the Oxarafoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical, cultural and geological importance.
Continue to the Borgarnes region where you will check in to your next hotel. In the evening, why not head to Glanni Waterfall or Grabrok Volcano Crater.
Stay overnight at the Bifrost Hotel or similar in the area.
Day 3: Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Wake up to breakfast at the hotel. Prepare yourself for a wonderful day of exploration of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
The Snaefellsnes Peninsula offers many stunning sites such as the small beach of Ytri Tunga where seals bask, the cliffs of Arnarstapi, the beaches of Djúpalónssandur and Hellisandur, the famous church steeple mountain of Kirkjufell and its modest waterfall and the lava fields of Berskerkjahraun. It's up to you to choose which beauties to visit!
Stay overnight at the Bifröst Hotel or similar in the area.
Day 4: Borgardjordur Region - Bonduos - Akureyri
Delight in breakfast at the hotel that will fuel you for your day of discovery. Begin with a visit to the small village of Reykholt, the cultural and political centre of Iceland during the Middle Ages. It was here that Snorri Sturluson, one of Iceland's most famous poets and historians, notably for his contribution to the famous Icelandic Sagas, took up residence in the early 13th century. There is an exhibition dedicated to him in the village. You can also admire the two churches in the village.
Continue to the two nearby waterfalls, Hraunfossar (the lava waterfall) and Barnafoss (the children's waterfall). Continue to the very active hot springs of Deildartunguhver, the highest in Europe.
You can choose to continue to the basalt columns of Borgarvirki before heading to the charming village of Blonduos. On the way back to your hotel in Akureyri, you can stop to admire the small church of Víðimýrarkirkja.
Stay overnight at the Nordurland Hotel or similar in the area.
Day 5: Godafoss - Myvatn - Husavik
Start your morning with breakfast at the hotel. You will have a choice to visit the Godafoss also known as "The Waterfall of the Gods" or the impressive lava formations of Dimmuborgir, the natural cave of Grjótagjá or the sulphurous geothermal bubbling pools of Hverir.
Stay overnight at Fosshotel Husavik or similar in the area.
Day 6: Husavik - Egilstadir - The Eastern Fjords Region
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
East of Husavik are natural sites of titanic proportions! You will have a choice to see the typical Icelandic basalt formations at Hljóðaklettar, the horseshoe-shaped canyon of Ásbyrgi, the impressive Dettifoss waterfall or the canyon with basalt columns of Stuðlagil. You will continue your journey along the East Fjords and then, arrive at your hotel to settle in.
Stay overnight at Hotel Blafell or similar in the area.
Day 7: Jokulsarlon Glacier - Vik
Have breakfast at the hotel. Then, depart for the south of Iceland. You will discover the Vatnajökull glacier and the incredible Jökulsárlón site, as well as the lagoon of the Vatnajökull glacier and its Diamond Beach. You will also experience the Skaftafell National Park - one of the most beautiful regions of the country is also located at the foot of the Vatnajökull glacier and is home to, among other things, the Svartifoss waterfall, famous for its splendid basalt formations (walking required).
Other must-sees in South East Iceland are the magnificent Fjarðarárgljúfur canyon, the charming little village of Vik and the famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara.
Stay overnight at Dyrholaey hotel or similar in the area.
Day 8: Vik - South Coast - Reykjavík
Dine on your lovely breakfast at the hotel.
Today's discoveries will be breathtaking - the Solheimajökull glacier, the Kvernufoss and Skogafoss waterfalls (which are very close to each other). You will also see the Seljlalandsfoss waterfall, which you can experience from behind the cascading water (weather permitting) and the hidden Gljufrabui waterfall.
You will have the afternoon to visit Reykjavik on your own. Stay overnight at Cabin hotel or similar in the area.
