Your Itinerary

During their tour, our members will follow the itinerary as seen below.

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland
Welcome to Iceland! Enjoy a Flybus shuttle transfer from Keflavik Airport to your accommodation in Reykjavik.

Day 2: Volcano Crater, Seals, Fjords and Mountains
At 9 am, meet your guide and leave your hotel to begin your small group tour (maximum of 30 people). Travel west along the scenic Hvalfjörður fjord and to the town of Borgarnes. Go for an easy hike on the crater of Grábrók volcano in the middle of a green lava field. In the afternoon, visit a natural history and seal museum in the fishing village of Hvammstangi. Further north, stop at the Víðimýri church and continue along the scenic landscape of the fjord and several mountain passes to Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland. The night in Akureyri will allow you to walk around the city.
Day 3: The Capital of Northern Iceland, Lake Mývatn and Geothermal Baths
In the morning, discover the city of Akureyri: visit the botanical gardens, walk in the streets and admire the panoramic view of the Eyjafjörður fjord. In the afternoon, go to Goðafoss - the cascades of the gods. Then, explore Lake Mývatn, a geological wonderland that's known for its abundant birdlife. Seek out the strange lava formations in Kálfaströnd, the pseudocrats in Skútustaðir and the tephra cone in Hverfjall. End the afternoon relaxing in the natural baths of Mývatn with fantastic views of the entire region. It is possible to see the aurora borealis in the evening, from mid-September to mid-April.

Day 4: Lava Labyrinth, Hot Springs and Travel East
In the morning, wander through the lava labyrinth of Dimmuborgir, "the dark castles", hoping to get a glimpse of the trolls that are said to live there. In the afternoon, visit the thermal spring of Námaskarð with bubbling mud pools and smoking solfatas. Head through the uninhabited highlands and lunar surroundings of eastern Iceland. From June to August, the tour includes a detour through the powerful Dettifoss Waterfall.
Day 5: East Fjords
Take the day to admire the spectacular scenery of the fjord and its tiny fishing villages at the end of winding roads in the eastern fjords. Then visit an interesting collection of stones and minerals. In the afternoon, discover Vatnajökull - the largest glacier in Europe visible in the south-east of Iceland. It is possible to see the aurora borealis in the evening, from mid-October to mid-April. Please note that the itinerary on this specific day may change due to seasonal factors, such as daylight.

Day 6: Vatnajökull National Park, Glacial Lagoon, Diamond Beach and South Coast
Start the day with a stop at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. Explore this extraordinary site and you may have the opportunity to see seals swimming in Arctic waters. You can walk on the black sand beach where big icebergs are blocked. Depending on the season, optional boat trips are available. Travel the southern part of the Vatnajökull glacier and spend time in Europe's largest national park, home to Iceland's highest mountains, alpine environment and Europe's largest glacier.

In the afternoon, a beautiful road with many natural wonders awaits you by crossing the lava field of Eldhraun, and the sandy desert of the south coast, dominated by mountain cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls. We will walk along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara, near Vík. In the small village of Skógar, you'll be amazed by the Skógafoss waterfall, 60 metres high, and one of the most impressive in the country. Continue to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, high but narrow, which dives over the mountain. There is an interesting path behind the waterfall - if you are ready to get wet! Further west, stop at the lava centre and discover Icelandic volcanic activity.  It is possible to see the aurora borealis in the evening, from mid-October to mid-April. Please note that the itinerary on this specific day may change due to seasonal factors, such as daylight.
Day 7: Icelandic Horses and Golden Circle
Today, explore the classics by browsing the itinerary of the Golden Circle sites. Start the day at Friðheimar, where you discover the Icelandic horse, its special qualities and history, and visit a geothermal greenhouse. Later, we will see the steam geyser fields of Geysir on our arrival. There are a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant, but it has been replaced by Strokkur's "churn" which breaks out every 5 to 10 minutes. You will then continue to Gullfoss, the "Golden Falls", which is a double waterfall that falls 34 metres into the river Hvítá and attracts travellers in summer and winter. You will then travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before heading back to Reykjavik for a short city tour. Northern Lights: From mid-September to mid-April, evening optional Northern Lights tours may be booked in the lobby of your hotel, weather permitting.

Day 8: Departure
Following breakfast, enjoy Flybus shuttle transfer from your accommodation in Reykjavik to Keflavik airport. Please note: The routes may be changed at any time in bad weather and some outdoor activities/day trips may be cancelled during the winter season in Iceland. In these rare cases, activities cannot be reimbursed, but local guides will do their best to find reasonable alternatives, as far as possible.
