Your Destinations

Reykjavik

The old harbour is the heart and soul of Reykjavík. With a backdrop of majestic Mount Esja and the beautiful Faxafloi Bay, you’ll find world-class restaurants, cutting-edge galleries, funky cafés, and quirky shops. With it all, you’re still at the heart of a working harbour, where you can watch ships come in with their daily catches. The Grand Hotel Reykjavik 4* is situated in a quiet area within a short distance of a variety of great shopping, dining and sight-seeing areas.

Near the hotel, there are great paths for jogging, walking or biking. Take a peaceful stroll and soak up Iceland’s flora and fauna at the Botanical Gardens and the Farm Zoo which houses a variety of Icelandic pets and wild animals. For stunning views of the city, climb up Hallgrímskirkja Church tower or visit the pearl - an otherworldly creation with a viewing platform and a revolving restaurant on top of hot water storage tanks.

Lake Myvatn

Experience an amazing journey through an area of extreme contrasts, geothermal activity, geology and Icelandic history.  The Lake Mývatn Nature Reserve has been affected by volcanic activity from nearby Mt. Krafla, creating a surreal wonderland of lava, rock formations and steam vents. From the end of August to April, this area offers prime locations where conditions for Northern Lights observations are excellent. Favourable weather conditions create unusually high chances for catching the lights in spectacular displays.

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge dividing North America from Europe also carves its way through Mývatn.
It is especially beautiful when winter‘s snow brings out the mysterious shapes in the rocks. The area has become known as a winter filming location for Season Three of Game of Thrones. The Fast and Furious 8 movie was also filmed here during February 2016.

The hallmark of North Iceland for walkers is its wide variety of trails. Cycling is also a popular mode of travel, allowing tourists and locals alike to connect with nature all year round. Another unique mode of transport in these lands is horseriding. Riding tours are widely available in North Iceland, including Skagafjörður, the centre of Icelandic horsemanship - home to stunning Icelandic horses.

Your Included Excursions

Our members have the following excursions included in their stay.

The Golden Circle & Northern Lights (For 6-Night Stays only)

Your Included Excursions
Explore a few of Iceland‘s most famous landmarks on Golden Circle Direct as well as go on a search for the northern lights in one day.

This Golden Circle Direct tour starts from BSÍ Bus Terminal at 10:30 and lasts approximately six hours. On the tour you will visit three of Iceland´s most famous sites: Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park.

Geysir is the place from which all other geysers in the world get their name. The famous Geysir does not erupt anymore but the smaller impressive, Strokkur erupts every 4-8 minutes and shoots a column of water up to 40 metres up in the air.

Gullfoss waterfall is a part of the glacial river Hvítá which gets its water from Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. The step-waterfall is quite the sight, and from many viewpoints it looks like the waterfall falls straight into an abyss, but in reality, it falls into a crevice which is 32 metres deep.

The last stop of the day is at Þingvellir where you can see the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates above ground.

You will arrive back within Reykjavík city limits approximately at 16:30. You will have a few hours to spend before you join our Northern Lights tour either at 21:00 (16 Oct – 14 March) or at 22:00 (25 August – 15 October & 15 March – 15 April).

You will arrive back within Reykjavík city limits approximately at 16:30. You will have a few hours to spend before you join our Northern Lights tour either at 21:00 (16 Oct – 14 March) or at 22:00 (25 August – 15 October & 15 March – 15 April).

The northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole.

We will take you out of the city for the best possible view of the lights. The locations visited during the Northern Lights tour vary from day to day depending on weather conditions. Because this tour is weather dependent, sightings are not guaranteed. However, if you do not see any northern lights during this tour, you are welcome to join the tour again, free of charge.

Indicated return times may vary if the northern lights activity is good, but we should be back in Reykjavík three to four hours after the tour starts. Please note that if you have booked a pick up for the tours, it starts 30 minutes before tours´ departure from BSÍ Bus Terminal.
