All the natural beauty and mystery of the Ionian is encapsulated in this one small island, making it a paradise for walkers, artists, photographers and all lovers of wild places. There are a hundred beaches, most of them small and secluded, consisting of dazzling pebbles and translucent water. Only two or three have bars, and one of these, at Dexia, has recently won a coveted Blue Flag for clean water and environmental protection.

Occupying an elevated position above the bay, and set in landscaped gardens amongst the olive trees, these recently built small villas are perfect for couples who want to enjoy ‘away from it all’ seclusion whilst being close to all the amenities of the town and a short stroll down to Dexia Bay.

Ithaka is the mythical home of King Odysseus, conqueror of Troy and hero of Homer’s epic tale. The island is full of Odyssean associations, and many are easily reached by car or on foot.

Nearby Vathy is a thriving port and administrative centre where the visitor is made to feel part of the community. Small hotels and apartment houses sit side by side with homes that have been lived in by the same families for generations. Most of the tavernas and coffee shops are situated on the waterfront near the large plateia.

Built especially for couples each villa has a superb, large, open-plan lounge, dining and kitchenette area complete with feature fireplace. Much thought has gone into the fittings and furnishings, which include satellite TV and DVD player. The kitchenette has a fridge, hob and a microwave oven. A fully fitted shower room/WC completes the ground floor accommodation.

A spiral staircase accesses the main feature of each house - a magnificent, romantic, double gallery bedroom. Each villa has its own private patio area with shade, seating and loungers, a BBQ for relaxed al fresco dining, and a swimming pool for cooling off on those long, sunny Ithakan afternoons. Paved pathways wind through the lovely gardens, where the perfect spot for quiet relaxation and reflection can be found.

With these wonderfully located and well-equipped villas there are almost endless choices for dining during your stay. If you want to eat in, the kitchenette has all you need to whip up a meal and the BBQ patio is great for al fresco meals, the nearest mini market and bakery are just a 10 minute drive away so stocking the fridge is easy.

When you feel like venturing further afield the nearest restaurants are also just 10 minutes away by car and in Vathy, the bustling centre of island life, you can find an array of welcoming tavernas, cafés and shops.

When you’re done relaxing by your private pool, cooking up al fresco meals on the BBQ and generally enjoying the seclusion and comfort of your villa, you must head down to the Blue Flag beach at Dexia Bay.

Surrounded by hills and guarded by a rocky islet it’s hard to believe that this unspoilt crescent of pebbles and sand is only a few minutes’ stroll from the bustling centre of island life, Vathy’s main waterfront plateia. The beach itself is just a fifteen minute stroll from the villas so is easily reachable on foot.

For those who wish to embark on their own private “odyssey”, the famous Nymph’s Cave can be reached on foot in 20 minutes whilst the fascinating ancient village of Paleochori with its ruined churches and faded frescoes lies another half hour beyond with the dramatically situated Perachori Village (and tavernas!) close by.
