Fascinating archaeological remains are sited all over the island, from the colourful reinvention of Knossos to the arid mystery of Phaestos. An absorbing mix of Minoan, Venetian and Turkish architecture, the island's towns weave together palaces, churches, castles, and minarets alongside the bustle of markets, cafes and tavernas. Many of them specialise in individual crafts - traditional furniture makers, basket makers, glassblowers and lace makers.
Rethymno is just 30 minutes from your hotel and is a 'must visit; during your stay. This charming medieval town draws visitors from far and wide to its old world charm, ancient fortress, labyrinthine streets and numerous restaurants. Dine on the deliciously fresh seafood around the picturesque Venetian harbour.
