Your Destination

A truly romantic city, Paris is a must for anyone looking for an elegant city break filled with fine cuisine, stunning architecture, and world-class culture. Stroll through the elegant boulevards of the city, epitomised by the areas of Montmartre or Saint-Germain, and soak up the smells of fresh croissants and blooming flowers - this is a wonderfully inviting city with plenty of sights to explore.

Admire the city streets from above at the
iconic Eiffel Tower; or, gain a different view at the rooftop of the stylish shopping centre Galeries Lafayette, before stopping off for a coffee and a pastry at a streetside cafe. To experience the best of French art, head to The Louvre or the elegant Musee D’Orsay, housed in a grand old railway station.

In the evening, see the
city streets come alive in the area around the picturesque Canal Saint-Martin, or follow in the footsteps of writers and painters in Montmartre or Pigalle, where you’ll find a range of authentic wine bars and delicious restaurants. Finish the night off with a stroll down the banks of the Seine river - this is a magical city just waiting for you to discover its charming streets.

Christmas in Paris 2019

The city of lights goes the extra mile over the festive period. The Champs Elysees glitters with some 150,000 lights, patisserie shelves groan with seasonal delights, Swiss-style wooden chalets offer an abundance of trinkets and souvenirs, and each shop seeks to draw you in with intricate and magical window displays. And, naturally, there's the typical food that draws in visitors: feast on regional sausages and fragrant cheese, sip on warming vin chaud and delight in smoky roasted chestnuts. Christmas under the twinkling lights of Paris is sure to amaze.

Discover an architectural masterpiece in the heart of Paris; Admire Chagall's painted ceiling and the auditorium's 7-ton chandelier. Climb the double staircase of the Grand Staircase and marvel at the splendid paintings and sculptures. Take a stroll through the Grand Foyer and discover why Opéra Garnier is considered the most beautiful Opera in the world.

Details of the building's history:
Presenting an eclectic and ostentatious baroque design, the Opéra Garnier is one of the most extravagant representations of Second Empire architecture in France. Thanks to your fast-track ticket, you will have quick and easy access to this magnificent building in the center of Paris. Inaugurated in 1875 and named in honor of its young architect Charles Garnier, this is the largest opera house in Paris. 'Europe. You will see the serpents writhing in the bronze sculpture "Pythonisse" before climbing the double staircase of the "Grand escalier". Imagine the rustle of crinolines admiring the breathtaking scenery and strolling through vast fireplaces filled with glittering mosaics, colorful marble columns and gold leaf flowers.

Wherever you look will be a feast for the eyes. From October 24 to February 2, discover the exhibition Grand Opera, 1828-1867. History made spectacular. On the eve of the Revolution of 1830, the great opera, in preparation since the time of the consulate, established itself as the new genre of opera. Employing considerable technical and human resources - a large choir, a ballet and an orchestra - he continued in the tradition of the grandiose initiated under Louis XIV. He also moved away from it: from ancient mythology, romantic French opera turned to historical frescoes from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The France of Louis-Philippe wanted to erase the humiliation of Waterloo and the Treaty of Vienna and discovered a passion for history, his own history. While Ludovic Vitet became the first inspector general of historical monuments and Victor Hugo published Notre-Dame de Paris, Robert the Devil and The Huguenots were born. The heroes of the great opera were no longer Theseus or Proserpine, but the Duke of Normandy and Marguerite de Valois. Sometimes, a near-contemporary past appeared on the scene: in Gustave III, Auber and Scribe told the story of the assassination of the King of Sweden, which occurred in 1792, barely forty years earlier.

The documents gathered in this exhibition testify to the immense enthusiasm aroused by the great French opera. Even if this passion faded somewhat during the Revolution of 1848, some great masterpieces were still produced under the Second Republic and the Second Empire. But there were upheavals on the horizon, and Wagner would disrupt the festivities with Tannhäuser, carried out in Paris in 1861. On August 15, 1867, six months after the partial failure of Don Carlos at the Peletier, the facade of the Palais Garnier was unveiled. A new era has apparently opened, which will soon be disrupted by the Sedan disaster.
