There is literally so much to see and do in this fascinating country it is impossible to list it all!! However, we have listed below some of this itineraries highlights:
San Jose
Whilst this city is not renowned for its natural beauty, it is a very cosmopolitan city that that is bustling and full of exciting sounds, scents and exotic vibes.
Tortuguero
The Caribbean Coast is home to the beautiful town of Tortuguero and it's National Park. This sun drenched zone with its sparsely spaced coastal villages offers a completely laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The culture is vastly different on this coast compared to the rest of the country with its prominent Afro-Caribbean influence notable as well in the delicious cuisine found here.
Braulio tropical rainforest
Getting its name from Costa Rica's third president, Dr. Braulio Carrillo, the national park, full of tropical rainforest, spans northeast of the Central Valley. Flowing down from the Central Volcanic Corridor, Braulio Carrillo National Park (Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo) falls between the Poas Volcano to the west and the Irazu Volcano to the east. The protected zone encompasses 108,970 acres (44,100 ha) of rolling hills crammed with dark-green vegetation that teems with wildlife!
Arenal Volcano
Positioned within Costa Rica’s fertile northern lowlands, the Arenal Volcano is an unavoidable presence while traveling within this part of the country. It is tall and imposing and has a reputation that precedes itself. Arenal’s perfectly symmetrical shape makes it a sightseer’s dream, while its abundance of outdoor activities makes it an easy place to check things off your “must-do in Costa Rica” list.
Driving in Costa Rica —
Driving is a great way to see Costa Rica - the roads are safe and landscape is awe inspiring. Driving on the right hand side on well maintained roads mean your journeys will be simple and stress free.
Populated areas such as San Jose generally have well signposted dual carriageways, and the smaller roads away from the main cities tend to be similar to UK countryside A roads.

• Welcome to San José, Costa Rica, and transfer to your accommodation.
• Night at the hotel.
Day 2: SAN JOSÉ - CENTRAL VALLEY - SAN JOSÉ
Hotel Presidente 4*
• Breakfast
• In the morning, visit the Poás Volcano (grouped activity), drive through the coffee plantations and enjoy a leisurely walk to the big Poás crater.
• Free afternoon at leisure in San José.
• Night at the hotel.
Day 3 SAN JOSÉ - TORTUGUERO (3 hours by road + 1 hour 30 minutes by boat)
Hôtel Mawamba Lodge
• Transferred to Tortuguero pier and breakfast is enjoyed on the road. Discover the Braulio tropical rainforest and its beautiful vegetation.
• Transferred by boat to the lodge.
• Lunch.
• During the afternoon you will embark on an interesting walk to a typical village.
• Back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4 - TORTUGUERO
Hôtel Mawamba Lodge
• Breakfast.
• During the morning boat ride, meet monkeys, crocodiles, several birds and more abundant nature.
• Lunch at the lodge.
• Free afternoon, wherein you can opt to go for a nature-filled walk.
• Dinner and overnight.
Lomas del Volcan 3*
• Breakfast.
• Transfer by boat along the Tortuguero channel, from where you will pick up your 4x4 car rental at Guapiles.
• Free lunch.
• You will begin your road trip to Arenal Volcano and enjoy the extraordinary nature along the journey.
• Suggestion: you can stop at the Neotropico foundation; this museum offers a fabulous insight into Costa Rica's amazing traditions.
• Arrival at the Arenal Volcano and check-in to your hotel Lomas del Volcan.
Day 6: ARENAL VOLCANO
Lomas del Volcan 3*
• Breakfast.
• You are free to spend your day in this national park, right in the heart of nature and next to the beautiful Arenal Volcano.
• If you wish to you can also visit the Danaus Ecocentre, the biological reserve, where you can learn all about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica.
• Overnight in the hotel.
Hotel Guachipelin 2*
• Breakfast.
• Drive around the Arenal lake and marvel at the stunning landscape as you venture through dry-tropical forest, lagoons, mangroves and rivers.
• Suggestion: You can opt to take a boat trip to the Bebedero River inside the Palo National Park.
• Drive through changing landscapes to the Rincon de la Vieja and arrive at Guanacaste.
• Dinner and overnight at the hotel Guachipelin 2*.
DAY 8: RINCÓN DE LA VIEJA VOLCANO (closed on Mondays)
Hotel Guachipelin 2*
• Breakfast.
• Spend the day exploring the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
• Night at the hotel.

DAY 9: RINCÓN DE LA VIEJA - SAN JOSÉ
El Sesteo 3*
• Breakfast.
• Return to San José and drop off the car at Alajuela. A transfer will take you to your hotel El Sesteo 3*.
• The remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Day 10: SAN JOSÉ DEPARTURE
• Breakfast.
• Transfer to the airport.

Day 9. RINCON DE LA VIEJA / TAMARINDO
Breakfast. Road to Tamarindo at the hotel Barcelo Langosta 4* (or similar). Drop off your car rental vehicle at the hotel.You will spend 2 nights based in standard double room on all inclusive meal plan at your hotel. Days are free at leisure.
Day 10. TAMARINDO
Day free at leisure on all inclusive meal plan.
Day 11. TAMARINDO / SAN JOSE
Breakfast. Transfer to your hotel in San Jose. Day free at leisure. Overnight in your hotel.
Day 12. SAN JOSE departure
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
