Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh
Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can unwind after your long flight.
Overnight in Phnom Penh with breakfast included.
You will meet your guide and driver in the morning to visit Wat Phnom, where a 14th-century stupa and small pagoda stands. It is the tallest religious structure in the city and the oldest building in Phnom Penh. Then continue to the Royal Palace, built in 1866 under King Norodom for a glimpse of Khmer architecture. A visit to the Royal Palace also includes a visit to the Silver Pagoda - named after its floor, which is covered with over 5000 silver tiles. Although some 60% of the pagoda’s contents were destroyed under Pol Pot’s regime, what remains is spectacular. This is one of the best places in all of Cambodia where objects embodying the brilliance of the Khmer civilization can still be viewed. After the palace, continue to visit the National Museum with its huge collection of Khmer sculpture and artefacts recovered from the ancient Angkor Empire.
This afternoon make a trip to visit the Tuol Sleng Prison to glimpse the devastating horrors that prevailed during Cambodia's ultra-radical Marxist movement. This excursion may prove distressing for some; it is, however, an important piece of Cambodia’s recent past. Then, take an excursion to Choeng Ek, also known as the "killing fields,"- located just outside the city. Afterwards, return to your hotel to spend the evening free at your leisure.
Overnight in Phnom Penh with breakfast included.
Please note: When visiting the Royal Palace, visitors are advised to follow a dress code consisting of "long trousers or skirt which cover the knees, and covered shoulders". Skirts, small shorts, tank tops and other items of revealing clothing are not allowed.
Day 3: Bus to Battambang
Your driver will transfer you to the bus station where you will depart for the 6-hour bus ride to Battambang. You will be transferred to your next hotel upon arrival.
Overnight in Battambang with breakfast included.
Take on your private Remok with your local guide and ride about 5 km from town to the Bamboo train, you will have the chance to ride this unique contraption on train tracks that were initially built by the French to transport goods.
Continue to Ek Phnom, an ancient and seldom visited temple. Along the way, we pass small villages where people are making bamboo sticky rice (korlan), fish paste, rice paper and banana paper.
Enjoy your lunch at a scenic local restaurant along the river. Afterwards, visit the site of the "Killing Caves" at Phnom Sampeou. There is a Khmer Rouge memorial as well as an interesting temple on top of this hill. When at the top, you will have a commanding view over the Cambodian countryside.
If you choose to stay until sunset you will see the countless bats exit from the cave down below, while enjoying a cold drink from a comfortable chair set up by enterprising locals. After sunset, you will be dropped off at your hotel.
Overnight in Battambang with breakfast & lunch included.
Day 5: Boat to Siem Reap
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the pier in time for your 7:30 am public boat to Siem Reap (approx. travel time: 7-8 hours). Upon arrival at Chong Kneas, you will be driven 30 minutes to Siem Reap town and your next hotel.
Overnight in Siem Reap with breakfast included.
The Angkor Archeological Park is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking and one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia, if not the world. Stretching over some 400 km2 including forested area, the park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century.
You will start to visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom where you can take a quietly optional 1km walk along the wall to a hidden temple. Then visit the temples of Bayon, Baphoun and Terrace of Elephants, The Leper King and Preah Khan.
This afternoon, you will visit the fabulous jungle temple of Ta Phrom and the whole late afternoon is set aside for a visit to the main temple, Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is one of mankind’s greatest achievements, and the intricate carvings at the temple of Angkor Wat demonstrate the skill of the Khmer builders. It was constructed in the early 12th century, then - two centuries later - was mysteriously abandoned by the Khmer civilization.
Now, Angkor Wat, is the main reason tourists visit Cambodia. Finish the tour with an unforgettable sunset on the quiet east side of Angkor Wat or at Pre Rup temple.
Overnight in Siem Reap with breakfast included.
Please note: Visiting temples or other religious sites in Cambodia, visitors are advised to follow a dress code consisting of long trousers or skirt which covers the knees as well as covered shoulders.
