The Lost Temple of Angkor – Explore Banteay Srei & Beng Mealea (with an English-speaking guide)
Marvel at Cambodia's cultural and architectural heritage with a day trip to discover its most beautiful temples and sacred sites. You'll start the day by travelling to Banteay Srei ‘The citadel of women’, the only major temple not built by a monarch. Originally built in the 10th century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, this red sandstone temple is one of the most important structures in Angkor, recognisable by its walls which are decorated with elaborate carvings that have been remarkably well preserved.
In the afternoon, you'll head to the jungle temple of Beng Mealea, a Hindu temple that also features some carvings representing Buddhist motifs. The temple is largely unrestored, with trees and vegetation growing through its towers and courtyards, and many of its stones lying in large heaps, giving it an enchanting atmosphere. Away from the usual tourist routes, this remote temple offers a fascinating opportunity to experience a ruined Angkor temple surrounded by dense jungle, keeping you away from the crowds.
Mount Phnom Kulen & Kampong Phluk floating village (with an English-speaking guide)
Immerse yourself in the local culture by discovering Mount Phnom Kulen, a sacred place in Khmer culture, and learn about local daily life in the floating villages on the shores of Lake Tonle Lap. Set off to discover Mount Phnom Kulen, considered the most sacred mountain in Cambodia, with its roots deeply rooted in Khmer tradition since 802 AD, when Jayavarman II proclaimed Cambodia's independence from Java.
You'll visit two remarkable sites revered by Cambodians, the Preah Ang Thom pagoda with its giant reclining Buddha, and the 1,000 lingas carved in the ‘valley of the Lingas’ or ‘river of the Lingas’, carved with sculptures of gods and Hindu symbols. You will also stop at a waterfall for a refreshing bath if you wish. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Next, continue your afternoon visit to the floating village of Kampong Phluk, one of the most impressive and unspoilt permanent installations on Tonle Sap Lake. Home to over 3,000 villagers, this charming village allows you to observe the submerged mangrove forest and lakeside village life up close. You'll board the local boat and set off on an informative cruise that immerses you in nature and the diverse way of life of the villages on the lake as you navigate between mangroves, houses on stilts, the floating school and the police station.
Island Hoping (for 2 people with an English-speaking guide)
Enjoy a quiet cruise along the picturesque islands of Kep, uncovering some of Cambodia's best-kept secrets. Explore uninhabited islands and immerse yourself in the lives of local fishermen, discover secluded snorkelling beaches and explore marine ecosystems. Finish with a sparkling wine tasting before returning to the mainland, fulfilled by an unforgettable morning adventure.
