Your Destinations —
Located on the Saigon River, Ho Chi Minh City, (or Saigon, as it is still called by locals) is Vietnam's major port and largest city, where wide downtown avenues are flanked by grand colonial architecture, most notably the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
As is the case in so many of southeast Asia's cities, Ho Chi Minh City is an intriguing mix of ancient and modern, where traditional bustling fruit and veg markets exist peaceably alongside blaring traffic horns and high rise offices.
Home to thousands of expats as well as Vietnamese locals, the dining and nightlife scene is lively and welcoming, with plenty of Western or authentic Vietnamese food readily available.
Just a few kilometres from similar beach resort Phan Thiet, Mui Ne is a popular weekend getaway from Ho Chi Minh City, with visitors drawn to its sandy beaches facing the South China Sea.
It is famed for its steady wind conditions (in the dry season) that make it a top destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing and other water sports. This gives the area a laidback, "surfer vibe" , although there are still plenty of upmarket hotels, restaurants and shops to explore.
The soaring sand dunes help protect the area's unique microclimate, so you can expect warm, dry days all year round.

During the Vietnam War the entire area of Cu Chi was designated a fire free zone and was heavily bombarded. From 1988, two sections of the tunnels have been opened for visitors.
In the afternoon, visit the moving War Remnants Museum which presents a partial, but riveting, view of the American War, as it is known in Vietnam.
