Your Destination —
Ely has a beautiful waterside for strolls, where you can discover the local countryside. Visitors can enjoy a boat trip along the River Great Ouse, where you can feel the country wind on your face as the day floats by. Poets House Hotel recommends you embark on Ely's Eel Trail. This walk invites walkers to discover the architecture and history of this small city. Ely's marshland and waters once contained many eels which were part of the local staple diet. Visitors can still sample smoked eel at Ely's award-winning Farmers Market. The Eel Trail highlights around 18 local attractions starting at Oliver Cromwell's House and Ely's tourism information centre where the leaftlet can be picked up. Other highlights of the trail include The Bishop's Palace, Ely Porta, Ely Museum, the antiques centre by the Waterside and of course the world famous Ely cathedral.
