Take a safari tour in one of Sri Lanka’s national parks to encounter elephants, leopards, water buffaloes, and exotic birds, or spend the day relaxing on the dazzlingly white, often untrod, beaches. Try your hand at a little surfing or retreat up into the Sri Lankan hills to experience a more temperate climate and the lavish greenery of the tea plantations. Your Itinerary —
Arrival at Bandaranayake International Airport and transfer to the hotel located approximately 20-30 minutes drive away in a fishing village called Negombo. Check in to the hotel at relax after the long journey.
Negombo is a characteristic fishing town north of Colombo and is a mere 15 km from the international airport. Set amidst lush groves of coconut palms, it breathes the spirit of the sea. Negombo is a gourmet paradise with sea food in plenty. Old - world fishing craft, like the outrigger canoe and the catamaran, bring seer, skipjack, herring, mullet, pomfret and amber jack, while lobster and prawn are caught in the lagoon. Negombo has a unique nightlife with its beach strip of honky tonk bars & sea food restaurants which are patronized by visitors and locals alike.
Overnight accommodation at Jetwing Blue, Negombo or similar.
After breakfast leave for the Wilpatthu National Park for a Jeep Safari (approximate travel time: 3 ½ - 4 ½ hours)
Wilpattu National Park is a park located on the island of Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the existence of “Willus” (Natural lakes) Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is located approximately 180 km north of Colombo. Nearly sixty lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. This is one of the largest and oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka and is home to Elephants, leopards, sloth bear, water buffalo and spotted deer and painted storks, white ibis, open bills, Whistling teals, spoonbills, cormorants and kingfishers. Apart from them serpent eagles, great racket tail Drongo, Malabar pied hornbills, crested hawk eagles & Sri Lanka junglefowls are commonly seen. Both water monitors and mugger crocodiles can be seen in the willus. Also, Wilpattu is among the top national parks world renowned for its Leopard population. The Leopard population in Wilpattu is still not yet known.
Thereafter proceed to Dambulla and check into hotel (approximate travel time: 2-3 hours). Overnight accommodation at the Paradise, Dambulla or similar.
After breakfast at hotel proceed to Sigiriya Rock Fortress (approximate travel time: 30 - 45 minutes).
Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered a pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, are the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare was the site of the palace and the outer wall was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriya 5th century water gardens to their former glory.
On completion return to hotel and relax (approximate travel time: 30 - 45 minutes). Overnight accommodation at the Paradise, Dambulla or similar.
After breakfast leave for Kandy en route visit Dambulla Cave Temple (approximate travel time: 30 - 45 minutes).
A vast isolated rock mass- it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling found here are over 2000 years old and is the largest area of painting found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters.
Thereafter visit the Spice gardens in Matale (approximate travel time: 1 – 1 ½ hours).
Matale is famous for its batik production and spice gardens. Batik has been an ancient art of painting cloth and today Sri Lanka is among the world leaders in the design of batik. Batik galleries and factories offer batik from simple single-colored designs to intricate multi-colored masterpieces. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens (as a home industry) and used not only to flavor food but also for medicine and cosmetics
Thereafter proceed to Kandy and check into hotel (approximate travel time: 1 – 1 ½ hours).
Kandy is a lovely city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings retains an aura of grandeur, which time has not affected. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned "Temple of the Tooth". Kandy and its satellite villages is the center of the island’s handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country.
Thereafter in the late afternoon in, make a visit to The Temple of the Tooth Relic is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. After that witness a Cultural Dance performance in the evening. These classical dance forms are associated with the performance of various rituals and ceremonies which are centuries old and are based on the folk religion and folk beliefs going back to times before the advent and acceptance of Buddhism by the Sinhalese people in the third century B.C.
Return to the Hotel. Overnight accommodation in the Mahaweli Reach, Kandy or similar.
Day 05: Kandy/Peradeniya/Kandy
After breakfast leave for the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya (approximate travel time: 30 - 45 minutes).
This was originally the King’s own royal pleasure garden that was later converted in to a botanic garden and opened to the public. At the Royal Botanical Gardens at ‘Peradeniya’ you could treat your eyes to an amazing, wide and rare collection of tropical and temperate, exotic and indigenous flora, and an orchid house with the largest collection in Asia.
On completion do a City Tour of Kandy.
You will also have the time to do some shopping in Kandy, where you could fetch souvenirs in wood, copper, silver, brass, ebony, bronze, ceramics, lacquer work, handlooms, batiks, jewellery and reed-ware at bargain prices! Thereafter return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight accommodation at the Mahaweli Reach, Kandy or similar.

After breakfast leave for the Pinnawala Elephant orphanage (approximate travel time: 1- 2 hours).
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is the home for young Elephants who have been displaced or lost from their natural habitat, located at Pinnawala village in Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawela Elephan t Orphanage is the best place for an up close and personal experience with the world’s largest land mammals! Today with 70 elephants herein, Pinnawela has become the home to the largest captive group of elephants in the world. Feeding time at 1:15 pm.
Thereafter proceed to your beach stay at Beruwala (approximate travel time: 2 ½ - 3 ½ hours). Once in Beruwala check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight accommodation at Cinnamon Bey, Beruwala or similar.
