Your Itinerary —
DAY 1 AIRPORT / DAMBULLA
Arrival at Colombo International Airport. After the formalities at the airport you will be escorted to your air conditioned vehicle and proceed to Dambulla. (Approx Travel Time - 4 to 5 Hours).
DAY 2 DAMBULLA / SIGIRIYA / HIRIWADUNNA / DAMBULLA
After breakfast at the hotel, Proceed to Sigiriya. ( Approx Travel Time - 15 to 20 Mins)
Sigiriya - Sigiriya or Lion Rock is an astonishing feat of engineering and construction. Built by an obsessed monarch in the 5th century, the most striking portion of Sigiriya, a terracotta and grey core of rock set in the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, rises a sheer 200 meters above a forested plain, its flattened summit sloping gently. A series of moats, ramparts and water gardens — remnants of an ancient city — spread out on two sides of the rock, with the remains of a pair of giant stone lion’s paws still guarding the staircase that leads to the summit, once occupied by a royal palace. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982, Sigiriya is Asia’s best preserved city of the first millennium, showing complex urban planning around the base of the rock, combined with sophisticated engineering and irrigation skills in the palace perched on the summit. After climbing the magnificent Sigiriya rock fortress, you will then go on an authentic village-trek at Hiriwadunna.
Village Safari with Bullock cart Ride - is a super jungle and village experience which is popular with most clients. Where we begin a scintillating walk over village paths, a tank (ancient reservoir) bund and forest. Cross a little jungle rivulet by catamaran to reach a farmers simple "wattle and daub" house where the breakfast is consumed. The villager will provide some tea and may be sweetmeats. Proceed half an hour by foot and bullock cart to a point where a vehicle meets you to continue your trip to the next destination. A truly Sri Lankan experience.
On completion, return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities. Overnight stay at Amaya Lake or Similar.
DAY 3 DAMBULLA / POLONNARUWA / MINNERIYA / DAMBULLA
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Polonnaruwa for a city tour of this ancient city! ( Approx Travel Time - 1 ½ to 2 Hours).
Today, Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its preserved ruins and restored ancient irrigation reservoirs is a “must visit” cultural destination of Sri Lanka Holidays. As much as the preserved cultural monuments would enlighten the tourists, the wild life sanctuaries in the district of Polonnaruwa affords ample opportunities for the joy and fun in the close range of wild elephants, other mammals to the lovers of wildlife. At the city of Polonnaruwa itself is the largest ancient irrigation reservoir called Parakrama Samudra (Sinhala: the Sea of Parakrama) is always lovely, and with the plethora of birdlife, it is seldom that there is not something interesting going on upon its shimmering expanses of waters.
After this city tour, you will head to the Minneriya National park for an exciting wild life safari!
Minneriya National Park - Minneriya national park is one of the best places in the country to see wild elephants, which are often present in huge numbers, and wading birds. Dominated by the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park has plenty of scrub, forest and wetlands in its 88.9 sq km to also provide shelter for toque macaques, sambar deer, buffalo, crocodiles and leopards (the latter are very rarely seen however). Elephants, which can number 200 or more, come to feed and bathe during what is known as ‘the Gathering’; and flocks of birds, such as little cormorants, painted storks, herons and large pelicans all fish in the shallow waters.
On completion, return to your hotel in Dambulla and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities. Overnight stay at Amaya Lake or Similar.
DAY 4 DAMBULLA / BENTOTA
After Breakfast,Check out of the hotel and proceed to visit the Dambulla cave temple. Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling found here are over 2000 years old and is the largest area of painting found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters. On Completion, you will head to Bentota to begin your beach stay! ( Approx Travel Time - 5 to 6 Hours).
DAY 5 to DAY 8,10 or 13 BENTOTA
Breakfast at hotel, spend rest of the day at leisure by beach or pool and enjoying the other facilities of the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Vivanta by Taj.
DAY 9,11 or 14 BENTOTA / AIRPORT
Today after breakfast you will be transferred to the Colombo Airport to catch your flight, back home accompanied with all the happy memories of the tropical isle; Sri Lanka once known as TAPROBANE.
