Your Itinerary —
Upon arrival at Colombo International Airport, you will be welcomed by your driver guide and immediately transferred to Wadduwa. On arrival, check in to your hotel for dinner & an overnight stay. The rest of the day is at your own leisure (Transfers in private vehicle for 1 ½ hours).
Day 2: Wadduwa - Kosgoda - Balapitiya - Tangalle
After breakfast at the hotel, drive towards the Southern part of the island. This morning, the first stop will be at Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Centre. There are five varieties of sea turtles in Sri Lanka. The main nesting habitats are located in the district of Galle.
After the visit, continue towards Galle where you will make your second stop to take a boat ride through the mangroves of the Madhu River. This unforgettable boat ride lasts more than an hour and allows you to visit secret passages through mangrove forests and observe the rich bio diversity. Then, at the beginning of the afternoon, you will arrive at Galle. Take a visit of the the city and the Old Dutch fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With its old winding streets between the walls of the fort, it is one of the most charming ancient cities of the island, having preserved many traces of its colonial past. At the end of the visit you will resume your journey to Tangalle visiting Weligama fishing village en route. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel (Transfers in private vehicle for 4 ½ hours throughout the day).
Day 3: Tangalle - Udawalawe National Park - Udawalawe
After breakfast, transfer to Udawalawe via Weeraketiya and Middeniya On arrival in Udawalawe visit the Udawalawe elephant transit home known as "Ath Athuru Sewana". The main goal of this centre is the rehabilitation of orphan elephants in their natural habitat. In the afternoon embark on a safari in the Udawalawe National Park. This is a dry zone park which was declared as a national park in 1972. The park falls between the Udawalawe reservoir and the Walawe River, surrounded by the scenic beauty of the mountain ranges that wind endlessly on the Balangoda, Kalthota and Haputale escarpments. This park is famous for its elephants seen in all their playfulness, whole herds of them, adults and babies bathing and playing in the water or feeding. In addition to elephants, spotted deer, sambhur, barking deer, gray langur, water buffalo and jackal are some of the prominent wild animals found in this park. On completion you will head to the hotel to check in. Dinner & overnight stay at your hotel (Transfers in private vehicle for 3 ½ hours throughout the day).
After breakfast, you will continue your journey towards Nuwara Eliya via Bandarawela passing through the Central Highlands and different plantations. Nuwara Eliya is the former British governor's summer residence, located at 1900 metres above sea level. This city is reminiscent of England with its Victorian villas, rose gardens, pristine lawns, golf course and especially its cool and misty climate. Stop at the Ravana Falls which is associated with Ramayana. On arrival in Ella take a short walk to Small Adams Peak through lush tea plantations while enjoying the sceneries. The view is superb on the Little Adams Peak where you can consummation a worth panoramic view. You continue your journey towards Nuwara Eliya via Bandarawela.
Take a city tour of Nuwara Eliya and thereafter, proceed to Kandy, visiting a tea plantation and a factory where you will uncover the different processes of making tea. Continue towards Kandy, the cultural and spiritual core of Sri Lanka, thus registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, beautifully situated at 350m altitude. Arrival & check in to the hotel. Dinner & overnight stay at your hotel (Transfers in a private vehicle for 4 ½ hours throughout the day).
Day 5: Kandy
After breakfast, visit Kandy the hill capital of Sri Lanka. Kandy was the last royal capital of the country until 1815 and its attachment to the British crown. It is today, the cultural and spiritual core of Sri Lanka, thus registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Kandy crafts an array of cultural, historical and heritage visitors from across the globe. Visit Dalada Maligawa the most famous site of Kandy also called Temple of the Tooth of Buddha because of the relic that it keeps preciously inside. Every day hundreds of Buddhist pilgrims come to worship the precious relic of Buddha.
There after, visit the botanical gardens of Peradeniya, in the suburbs of Kandy. These gardens are the largest in Sri Lanka and surely among the most beautiful in the world. In these former royal parks, you will find more than 147 hectares of hundreds of floral species including more than 300 varieties of orchids and a majestic fig tree of java, whose branches extend on about 2500 m².
You will then visit a gem lapidary. Late in the afternoon, you have the privilege of view a traditional Kandyan dance show. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel (Transfer in a private vehicle for 1 ½ hours during the day).
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then proceed to Matale where the majority of spices produced by Sri Lanka are grown. Stop in a spice garden. Here, you will discover the different spices growing in Ceylon. You will then leave for Dambulla where you will visit the rock monastery of Dambulla. The caves are dug in a huge block of granite perched at over 160 m altitude which includes five rock temples. The walls of the first were covered with gold leaf, which earned him to be called "The Golden Rock". In these five caves are hundreds of Buddha statues, as well as frescoes which cover about 1,800 square metres, depicting effigies or episodes of Buddha's life. As you enter the monastary, look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold. On completion transfer to Sigiriya. Dinner & overnight stay at your hotel (Transfer in a private vehicle for 3 ½ hours during the day).
Day 7: Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya
After breakfast, leave for Habarana. Today you will enjoy a Sri Lankan village experience boarding a tuk tuk and followed by a cart ride through the countryside and a boat ride on the small lake in a fishing boat. These boasts are called catamarans (English term derived from two words Tamil, Katta and Maran). You will then visit a local plantation before going in a local village house where you will be given a traditional Sri Lankan cooking demonstration.
Following this you will transfer to Polonaruwa. Here, you will take a city tour. Situated 218 kilometres from Colombo, Polonnaruwa is yet another well planned medieval city defended by enclosed walls, graced by palaces, shrines, monasteries, pavilions, parks, ponds and irrigation lakes which bears witness to a glorious past. A dominant feature of the city, is the vast 5940 acres of irrigation lake aptly named "Parakrama Samudraya" or the sea of Parakrama, after its royal builder King Parakramabahu. This lake depicts an example of the advanced engineering and construction skills prevalent during the ancient times. This gigantic reservoir was built to collect rain water, which did not permit a drop of water to go waste. Following this, transfer to Sigiriya. Arrival & check in to the hotel. Dinner & overnight stay at your hotel (transfer in a private vehicle for 3 ½ hours during the day).
8 Night Itinerary
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Sigiriya & in the afternoon ascend Lion Rock, a rock transformed into a fortress palace. The 5th century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and World Heritage Site doesn't only boast ancient Sri Lankan engineering & urban planning supremacy, but also acclaims to be one of the finest monuments of art & culture. Step through the gigantic 'Lion Paws' - overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below - to comprehend the absolute splendour that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts & moats the Lion Rock - resembling the mythological 'City of Gods' - is coated by frescoes that relate to Gupta style paintings found in Ajanta caves of India. Walk in the shade of an eminent 'mirror wall' embracing the Western face of Sigiriya representing an artistic hundred metres laminated with graffiti.
Wander into the well-fabricated museum downstairs for an epic journey of yesteryears, to uncover how the citadel floated above citizens with an irrigation system that pumped water right onto its summit. With an ingenious hydraulic system describing a colossal masterpiece of the great king, this remained a wonder in Asia for centuries. You will then leave for Negombo via Kurunegala. Return to hotel for an overnight stay and dinner at your hotel (Transfer in a private vehicle for 4 hours during the day, 2 ½ hours of walking time).
Day 9: Depart from Negombo
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and dependent on your departure flight, you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight home (transfer in a private vehicle for 20 minutes).

Day 11: Depart from Chilaw
