Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Colombo Airport - Rathnapura - Udawalawe
Welcome on arrival at Colombo airport by your driver and immediate transfer to Udawalawe, via Rathnapura.
Day 2: Udawalawe - Buduruwagala - Ella - Bandarawela
After an early breakfast, depart on a 3 hour Jeep safari through this National Park, famous for its vast herds of buffaloes & variety of birds. After the safari, you will be transferred to Ella where you will visit the beautiful site of seven sculptured statues that have been carved out of rock. Afterwards, continue to Bandarawela for magnificent landscapes and great views.
After breakfast, transfer to the Bandarawela railway station & board the train to Nanuoya. This trip through tea plantations & rolling hills is considered one of the most scenic railway routes in the world. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Nuwara Eliya where you will visit the city.
Afterwards, continue towards the Kandy region, visiting a tea plantation & factory along the way. End the day by checking into your hotel & enjoying dinner.
Morning visit to the Buddha Tooth Temple (Dalada Maligawa) Every day , Hundreds of Buddhist pilgrims come to venerate the precious relic. Then continue to Peradeniya and visit the beautiful botanical garden, a space measuring out to over 60 hectares . The most beautiful tropical species of the world, trees, flowers, spices and fruits come together at the Botanical Garden, which is unquestionably one of the oldest and most the most beautiful gardens in the world. Later in the afternoon, visit a Gem lapidary.
No, the real joy of Kandy is the illusion that – at least in spirit – a great kingdom survives. Kandyans are always dressing up in their 30ft cummerbunds, and every night there’s a display of drummers in silver armour.
Breakfast at the hotel then continue towards Matale region to visit a spice Garden. Discover the different spices growing in Ceylon, then the compositions, creams and mixtures that can be made and their uses. Drive towards Habarana and en route visit the rock temple of Dambulla. Classified by UNESCO since 1991, the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a rock monastery, of which the five sanctuary caves are fully adorned with Buddhist murals executed in the 18th century. All vermilion and ochre, this shimmering composition covers 2100m². Check in at the hotel for three nights.
After breakfast leave for Habarana . Today You will have a Sri lankan village experience . You will board a tuk tuk, enjoy a bullock cart ride through the countryside and a boat ride on the small lake in a fishing boat called a catamaran (English term derived from the words Tamil, Katta and Maran). We then visit a local plantation before going in a village house where you will be given an explanation about Sri Lankan cooking. On completion, transfer to Sigiriya & in the afternoon ascend Lion Rock, a rock transformed into a fortress palace. Climbing the rock is done by a staircase on the mountainside and lasts about 3 hours. An anfractuosity of the rock the jewel of Sinhalese painting, the frescoes of "Demoiselles de Sigiriya", depicts twenty-one young ladies, survivors of a long painted gallery, whose colours have kept all their splendour for 1500 years.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Polonnaruwa and visit this ancient city, including the remains that have been cleared from the rainforest. Proceed on your sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa, the best conserved medieval capital of Sri Lanka, a visit to Polonnaruwa will take you to through its rich dynastic past. Intricately carved lotus pillars, meditative halls, ceremonial towers, magnificent royal baths and palace ruins have been uncovered in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
If opting for the 8 night itinerary, you will stay another night in Habarana before being transferred to the airport for you flight home on day 8.
If opting for the 10 night itinerary, you will be transferred to the eastern shores of the Island Passikudah.
Day at leisure on the beach of Passikudah. Dinner & overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 10: Passikudah - Habarana - Kurunegala - Negombo
Morning at leisure. Transfer to Negombo via Habarana & Kurunegala.
Day 11: Negombo - Airport
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
