Your Destinations —
Often described as the Venice of the North, St Petersburg is a city defined by water. The mighty Neva River empties into the Gulf of Finland near the Fortress of Peter & Paul – the final resting place of the Tsars – and canals snake through the backstreets, passing stately townhouses. Explore this enchanting city and discover the many hidden treasures!
The centuries have been kind to the former capital of the Russian Empire – St Petersburg looks as grand today as when Peter the Great laid the foundation stones in 1703. From his cabin on Petrogradskaya Storona, the Russian emperor invited Europe's leading architects to fill the streets with extravagant palaces and elegant Baroque cathedrals. Today, the historic centre is preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage site, along with the grand palaces of the Romanovs at Peterhof, Pushkin and Pavlovsk.
This village is a fantastically colourful example of rural Russia & traditional Russian life that is lived out within charming wooden buildings with highlights such as a vodka museum which houses a collection of 2,800 different types of vodka brought from all across the Russian Federation.
This island draws its fame from its scenic collection of wooden churches with the centrepiece, the 22 domed Church of the Transfiguration, built completely without the use of nails. The Island has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the highlight of any Russian river cruise.
Explore a tiny village settlement on the edge of the White Lake. Spend some time wandering through its medieval streets as you visit the main attractions. The Monastery of St. Cyril was founded in 1397 and is a particular delight to visit due to its an impressive ensemble of priories, churches and historical references.
Disembark in one of the oldest cities in Russia, where history can be found around almost every corner. Such a fascinating place deserves a tour and yours will take you to some of its best loved sights such as the jewel coloured domes of the Church of Elijah and the treasure-trove of art that isthe Governor's Building.
Spend the afternoon at the local market where you can soak up the local atmosphere.
Visit to the town of Uglich which juts out into the Volga River on one of his many deep bends, first documented in 1148. The town made its historical mark due to the suspicious death of Dmitri Ivanov, son of Ivan the Terrible. The Church of St Dmitri on the Blood, built in his memory, appears on the horizon as the ship sails towards the town and is one of the great sights to be seen in Uglich. In the evening, enjoy a captain's dinner and entertainment on-board.
Moscow is the most populated city in Europe and the northern-most megacity on Earth. As such, it has served as a key geo-political and economical centre, both in Europe and the world.
Built in its heart, and facing one of the many meanders of the Moskva river, is the Moscow Kremlin. This fortified complex has functioned as the Seat of the Grand Dukes, the Residence of the Tsars, and currently is the residence of the President of the Russian Federation; it features four palaces, four cathedrals, and monumental enclosing walls and towers.
Around the Kremlin one can find many of the most important landmarks in Moscow, including the Alexander Garden, Saint Basil’s Cathedral, and the Red Square.
