Your Destination —
Malta
The Maltese Islands, one of the most charming destinations in the Mediterranean, offers the traveller a unique holiday experience. Blessed with year-round sunshine and set in crystal clear waters, Malta and its sister islands of Gozo and Comino, can be a fascinating setting for a truly memorable vacation with expansive beaches, outdoor sports facilities, selective wellness spas, a thriving nightlife and the islands' numerous cultural, artistic and natural treasures.
The Grand Harbour, or Port of Valletta, is a great base to explore this exciting country. Valetta, Malta's capital city and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is inextricably linked to the history of the military and charitable Order Of St. John of Jerusalem. The city's sites and attractions include St. John's co-Cathedral, palaces, museums, art galleries, theatres, shopping and nightlife. The city covers just 55 hectares, making it one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and has long been known as a 'melting pot' of ancient cultures due to its location on the major Mediterranean shipping routes. The landscape of Sicily is beautiful and varied. In the north-east, Mount Etna, with its fertile slopes and valleys, supports a number of vineyards. In the south-east there are the beautiful forest-covered mountains; the landscape characterised by soft hills, with vineyards, olive groves, almond trees, citrus and the characteristic carob trees.
To the west the landscape becomes gentler with soft, rolling hills, and it is here one finds long sandy beaches. The weather is mild all year round and temperatures will not normally go below 15 degrees, even in the coldest months. Sicily has many lovely sandy beaches and a wealth of holiday towns and villages.
The chic resort town of Taormina is Sicily's most popular summer destination and boasts a superb array of restaurants and bars. Perched on the side of a mountain, this historic town is an achingly beautiful spot with gorgeous medieval churches, a stunning Greek theatre and sweeping views over the Gulf of Naxos and Mt Etna.
