Your Destination

Jordan is a land of mesmerising beauty and contrasts, rich in ancient sites, unique landscapes and cultural experiences. From the fertile Jordan Valley to remote desert canyons, visitors can explore splendid desert castles and Roman ruins, gaze in awe at the haunting wilderness of Wadi Rum, or bathe in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea.

Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city where modern commercial centres rub shoulders with traditional coffee shops and artisan workshops.  The ancient city of Jerash is acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world, and Jordan's desert castles, beautiful examples of early Islamic art and architecture, are fascinating.

Petra, the ‘rose-red city’, a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans is without doubt Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. Less than an hour’s drive away, Wadi Rum is the largest and most magnificent of Jordan’s desert landscapes, with monolithic mountains (‘jabal’), towering above a small Bedouin Village.

Your Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Amman airport. Reception of participants by our correspondent, assistance with the visa formalities. Transfer to the hotel in Amman. Dinner and Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the city tour of Amman; visit of the Citadel, Archeological Museum, Roman Amphitheatre, and Folkore Museum. Due to the city’s modern-day prosperity and temperature climate, almost half of Jordan’s population is concentrated in the Amman area. The residential suburbs consist of mainly tree-lines street and avenues flanked by elegant, almost uniformly white houses, in accordance with a municipal law, which states that all buildings must be faced with local stone. The downtown area is much older and more traditional with smaller businesses producing and selling everything from fabulous jewellery to everyday household items. The people of Amman are multi-cultural, multi-denominational, well-educated and extremely hospitable. They welcome visitors and take pride in showing them around their fascinating and vibrant city.

Continue to Jerash for lunch at Artemis restaurant. Visit of Jerash; a close second to Petra on the list of favorite destinations in Jordan, the ancient city of Jerash boasts an unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6’500 years. Jerash lies on a plain surrounded by hilly wooded areas and fertile basins. Conquered by General Pompey in 63 BC, it came under Roman rule and was one of the ten great Roman cities, the Decapolis League. The city’s golden age came under Roman rule, during which time it was known as Gerasa, and the site is now generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East, comprising paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates.

Continuation to the Dead Sea; At 410 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth. Jordan’s Dead Sea coast is one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world and it remains as enticing to international visitors today as it was to kings, emperors, traders, and prophets in antiquity. The main attraction of the Dead Sea is of course the soothing, abnormally salty water itself. The salt content of the water is 31,5% making the water so buoyant that it is impossible for the visitor to sink. The water also contains 21 minerals including high levels of magnesium, sodium, potassium, and bromine and 12 of these minerals are found in no other body of water in the world.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Dead Sea.

Day 3
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure for visit of St. George Church (Madaba); The Madaba Mosaic Map covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St.George, which is located northwest of the city centre. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 x 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved.
Continuation to Mt Nebo; one of the most revered holy sites of Jordan and the place where Moses was buried. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, which has been expanded into a vast complex. During his visit to Jordan in 2001, the Late Pope John Paul II held a sermon here that was attended by some 20’000 faithful.
Lunch at Food Basket restaurant.

Continuation to visit Shobbak. A lonely reminder of former Crusader glory is Shobak Castle, less than an hour North of Petra. Once called “Mont Real”, Shobak dates from the same turbulent period as Kerak. It is perched on the side of a mountain, with a Grand sweep of fruit trees below. The castle’s exterior is impressive, with a forbidding gate and encircling triple wall. Despite the precautions of its builder, the fortress fell to Saladin only 75 years after it was raised. Inscription by his proud successors appear on the castle wall.
Continuation to Petra.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Petra.

Day 4
Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day visit of Petra; The Red Rose City of Petra: The giant red mountains and vast mausoleums of a departed race have nothing in common with modern civilization, and ask nothing of it except to be appreciated at their true value - as one of the greatest wonders ever wrought by Nature and Man. Although much has been written about Petra, nothing really prepares you for this amazing place. It has to be seen to be believed. Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1 kilometer in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80 meters high cliffs. Just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh (Treasury). The Treasury is just the first of the many wonders that make up Petra. You will need at least four or five days to really explore everything here. As you enter the Petra valley you will be overwhelmed by the natural beauty of this place and its outstanding architectural achievements. There are hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs with intricate carvings - unlike the houses, which were destroyed mostly by earthquakes, the tombs were carved to last throughout the afterlife and 500 have survived, empty but bewitching as you file past their dark openings. Here also is a massive Nabataean-built, Roman-style theatre, which could seat 3,000 people. There are obelisks, temples, sacrificial altars and colonnaded streets, and high above, overlooking the valley, is the impressive Ad-Deir Monastery – a flight of 800 rock cut steps takes you there.
Lunch at Basin restaurant.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Petra.

Day 5
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure for the visit of Little Petra & Beidah; The Siq Al-Barid is located to the north of Petra, only a 10 minute drive away. A classical temple stands guard outside the miniature siq which would appear to have been an important suburb of the city of Petra, situated at the point where several ancient caravan routes met, linking Wadi Araba with Gaza, Egypt and the Mediterranean coast. The narrow file, only some 350 m long, is crammed with tombs, temples, triclinia, houses, water channels and cisterns, in brief, a "Little Petra". Of particular note are the remains of painted frescoes on plaster dating from the 1st century AD, which are to be found in one of the bicliniato.

Continuation to Wadi Rum for Lunch.
Dinner and overnight at Wadi Rum Camp.

Day 6
Breakfast at the camp.
Full day Jeep tour at Wadi Rum; a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and god-like”.. A maze of monolithic rock-scapes rises up from the desert floor to heights of 1’750 meters creating a natural challenge for serious mountaineers. Hikers can enjoy the tranquility of the boundless empty spaces; explore the canyons and water holes to discover 4000 year old rock drawings and the many other spectacular treasures this vast wilderness holds in store.
Lunch during the program.

Dinner and overnight at the camp in Wadi Rum.

Day 7
Breakfast at the camp.
Departure to Aqaba; a fun place. It is a microcosm of all the good things Jordan has to offer, including a fascinating history with some outstanding sites, excellent hotels and activities, superb visitor facilities, good shopping, and welcoming, friendly people, who enjoy nothing more than making sure their visitors have a good time for a leisurely stay.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Aqaba.

Day 8
Transfer to Amman International Airport for flight back to Europe.
Note : the transfer from Aqaba to Amman International airport last approximately 4 hours.
