Your Destination —
From the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, you will come to the banks of the Fondamenta Nuove where you can see the marvellous islands of the lagoon. Murano, Torcello and Burano are enchanting, easily reachable islands. There are boats that will take you to the colourful houses of Burano, in the Murano workshops where glass is blown or to a splendid holiday farm on Sant'Erasmo, with its natural scenery and bicycle paths.
Venice has an extraordinarily rich heritage, and you will marvel at the architecture alone, but there are also some interesting places to visit:
Ca'Rezzonico - Here you can get an idea; of what life in the 18th century near the Grand Canal was like.
The Peggy Guggenheim Museum - The museum has an eclectic collection of 20th century artwork, from Picasso to Dali.
La Galleria dell 'Accademia - Home to the work of some of history's most revered artists, such as Titian, Giorgione, Bellini, Tintoretto and Veronese.
Santa Maria dei Miracoli church and the San Francesco del Deserto Monastery - The church was recently restored, but was originally built between 1481-1489 by Pietro Lombardo. It is an exceptional example of Renaissance Venetian architecture. The gardens of the SanFrancesco del Deserto monastery offer a welcome break for the tired traveller. The quiet and peaceful surroundings are perfect for lunch or a romantic stroll.
Marciana Library - The great architect Palladio considered this magnificent building by Sansovino as the most beautiful in the world. Few tourists realise that you can see it. Inside you will find treasures from Greek and Latin literature and true masterpieces of poetry and philosophy.
