Your Destinations —
Previously known as Bombay, Mumbai is the commercial capital of India and is a bustling, loud, energetic city of entrepreneurs, colonial architecture, debaucherous nightlife, cricket, fiery food and so much more. A cluster of seven islands, Mumbai is known for its modern character in comparison to other Indian cities; as the country’s financial and cultural epicentre, it is no surprise that the booming Bollywood film industry chose Mumbai as its base. This vibrant city is hot, crowded and noisy, yet impossible not to love.
India's premier tourist resort is an idyllic vista of swaying palms, white sands, sparkling waters, emerald green paddy fields and eternal sunshine. Its colonial past is evident from the exquisite architecture and the East-meets-West cuisine, whilst its present and future are rooted firmly in tourism - evident in the ultra luxury resorts and restaurants which line the pristine beaches.
Your Itinerary —
You will be met by a tour representative at the airport and then transfer to your hotel Trident, Nariman Point, where you will be able to check in at 14:00. You will have the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 2: Elphanta Caves
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll proceed for a half-day tour of the Elephanta Caves (depending on the date of your arrival, as the Elephanta Caves are closed on Mondays). The Elephanta Caves are the focal point of Gharapuri Island, which was renamed the Elephanta Island by the Portuguese. There are seven cave excavations in the Elephanta group and these are datable from circa 6th – 7th centuries A.D. The caves have been designated by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Located on an island facing the city the only access is by boat. For anyone wanting an insight into the Hindu religion, this is an ideal excursion. You’ll board your Non AC Motor boat from the Gateway jetty for a 45-minute ride to the Elephanta Island. A toy train will take you to the steps (120 Steps) leading to the caves. The caves date from the 8th century and they have remarkable statues that unfold a story carved in stone. Your tour guides will bring to life these statues in stone as they narrate the stories from Indian mythology. You’ll then board a Non AC Motor boat from Elephanta Island for the Gateway of India. Upon arriving at the Gateway of India, you’ll pause for a brief photo stop. After this, you’ll transfer back to your hotel to spend the rest of the day at leisure.
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll proceed to a sightseeing tour of Mumbai, beginning with the Gateway of India. You’ll then move on to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai (formerly Crawford Market), a bustling fruit and vegetable market that has been at the centre of market life in South Mumbai since it was built in the days of the British Raj. On the way you’ll pass the Municipal Corporation building and the Gothic-style Victoria Terminus – now renamed the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – where the first train in India departed from in 1853. After visiting the market, you’ll drive to to Churchgate Station, where you will get to watch the activity of the famous Dabbawalas - known for their accurate delivery of Lunch boxes to thousands of people residing in the suburbs of Mumbai and coming to work in the city. The organization is Six Sigma Certificate by Forbes group.
You will then board a local train for a brief ride to Mahalakshmi station. Local Trains of Mumbai are called the lifeline of the city, carrying as many as a million people to work each day. On reaching the station you will disembark the train and climb up to the main street. You will then return to your hotel after a long day of sightseeing.
