Use your time in Chennai to visit the impressive temple of Kapaleeswarar - a colourful Hindu temple which towers over the surrounding neighbourhood. After visiting the temple, you will be taken to the Fort Saint George, to visit the British Colonial Time Museum and the East India company, and the Saint Thomas Basilica.
On day 2, guests will travel from Chennai, through Kanchipuram, to Mahabalipuram (approx. transfer time: 4 hours)
Kanchipuram was the capital of the Pallavas dynasty. Here, you can spend some time exploring 'the 1000 temples city' where you will find plenty of temples, each more ornate than the last, dotted throughout this typically hectic modern Indian Town. Highlights include the temples of Kailasanatha, Ekambaneshwaram, Kamakshi and Varadarajaswam. Continue to Mahabalipuram & settle into your hotel.
Your third day in, will be devoted to seeing the Pancha Rathas, also known as The Five Rathas. Each of these 7th Century temples is carved from large, single rocks... its a sight to behold.
After breakfast on day four, you will leave this region and will be transferred to Chennai Airport for your flight to Madurai. You will be met by your driver upon arrival & transferred to your hotel.
After breakfast, you will visit Madurai's Flower Market, followed by a tour through Tamil Nadu's spiritual capital and one of the oldest cities in India. Highlights include a visit to Tirumalai Nayak Palace, known for it ornate throne room, and Tiruparankidram temple, which is said to be built on the site of a legendary battle.
Leave Madurai on the morning of day 6 and Head for Periyar. This is one of Idia's most beautiful nature reserves!
Take a stroll along Lake Periyar at midday, this is the perfect opportunity to seek out the park's abundance of wildlife from the elusive tiger to elephants, bison and a variety of deer, from a new perspective.
The following day will be a travel day where guests will journey from Periyar to Kumarakom.
Kumarakom is Kerala's beguiling backwaters area, which you will be able to explore more on day seven. On this day, guests will cruise along the backwaters of this stunning region after breakfast where they will coast past small villages and along the canals.
