Experience the top sights of south Iceland on this comprehensive tour and discover the amazing diversity in Iceland's landscape.
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky.
The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis.
The season for Northern Lights in Iceland extends from September through winter and well into April. The best time to see Northern Lights is in the middle of winter when the weather is the coldest and when it is the darkest. Crisp cold evenings with skies clear enough to see stars is a prime indicator for auroral activity.
If you’re a veteran watcher of the mythical “Game of Thrones” series, a drama as deep and dark as some of Iceland’s glacial lakes, you’ll love this tour that traces the footsteps of your favorite characters through the mysterious landscape of Iceland.
For newcomers to the TV show: Even if you haven’t watched the TV show, you are sure to be astounded by the varied landscapes and enjoy entertaining stories from the professional guides on this tour of wonders!
This tour takes you to some of the filming locations in Iceland where you’ll get to experience Icelandic nature just like the cast members: take in the majestic, sweeping views, watch dancing waterfalls, capture the panoramas in the distance, and experience the stillness and solitude.
Starting with season 2 and continuing through season 7, filming of Game of Thrones scenes has taken place in multiple locations in Iceland, during both summer and winter.
The scenes at The Bloody Gate were filmed at Þingvellir National Park, a World Heritage Site where the Viking parliament was established. Various other scenes were filmed in that area, such as Wildlings roaming South of the Wall. You can also walk around the Settlement Era Viking Lodge in Þjórsárdalur valley where elaborate scenes were shot and a particularly hair raising massacre in the series took place.
The Golden Circle needs little introduction: it includes some Iceland's most stunning sights. You will see the hot spring Strokkur shoot a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 4-8 minutes - a thrilling experience that just never gets old.
You will also visit the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvita tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep. Our tour also includes the historical and geological wonder that is Pingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year.
