Your Destination —
Your hotel is only a few steps away from Reykjavik attractions like the National Museum and University of Iceland. The Nordic house is just around the corner and the city center with its perpetual motion, museums, restaurants and shops, is only minutes away.
The old harbour is the heart and soul of Reykjavík. With a backdrop of majestic Mount Esja and the beautiful Faxafloi Bay, you'll find world-class restaurants, cutting edge galleries, funky cafés, and quirky shops. With it all, you’re still at the heart of a working harbour, where you can watch ships come in with their daily catches.
For stunning views of the city climb up Hallgrímskirkja Church tower or visit the pearl - an otherworldly creation with a viewing platform and a revolving restaurant on top of hot water storage tanks.
Your Itinerary —
Day 1. Arrival
Once you have landed at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, please pick up your luggage. Take the FlyBus Plus airport shuttle transfer to Radisson Blu Saga Hotel. Remember to let the FlyBus representative on the bus know what hotel you are using for drop-off.
Please note: hotel check-in cannot be guaranteed before 2:00 PM.
The rest of the day is free for your own activities. We suggest a walk in the Old Town area with galleries, museums, restaurants and pubs. A visit to one of the city´s geothermal swimming pools is a great way to shake off jetlag and a very Icelandic activity. It is also a great way to meet Icelanders. The Radisson Hotel Saga has a historic swimming pool within walking distance.
Day 2. Whale Watching Tour, Whales of Iceland Museum and Old Harbour
Enjoy the delicious and famous breakfast at the Radisson Blu Hotel Saga. The morning is yours to spend as you like. Your hotel is actually within walking distance of the Old Harbour area, about a 20 minute easy walk through charming neighbourhoods. The historic Old Harbour has developed into a charming and vibrant artistic and craft area. Museums, craft shops and cosy restaurants make this an ideal place to spend an afternoon or evening.
Make your own way to the Old Harbour area pier where your whale watching boat departs. Please board the boat no later than 12.45, as the boat departs at 13.00.
The boats are designed with whale watching in mind. They have a fantastic interior, large outside viewing decks and a safe family environment. The friendly guides, along with the captain and crew, point out where you can spot the whales. They will also provide interesting information about the different kinds of whales and seabirds you can expect to see.
The whales are not shy, often surfacing quite close to the boat, and, as the guides will tell you, to see a whale up close truly is a sight to remember. There is over 90% viewing success (if you don´t see whales today, you will get another tour for free). Whales and dolphins often spotted include minke whales, humpback whales, harbour porpoises and white-beaked dolphins.
The tours have a special interactive and educational focus so people can discover more about the ocean wildlife. The tour company also is eco friendly and respects the area wildlife.
