The hotel is located in Pyrgos Village, a well-preserved hilltop town which presents
an idyllic slice of traditional Greek village life
, thanks to its narrow cobbled lanes, whitewashed buildings and Venetian castle. It is a far cry from some of the much busier tourist hotspots
of Fira and Oia, which are swamped with tourists in the summer months.
The hotel is just five minutes from the Main Square
- you can either walk or take a ride on the hotel's resident donkey, Malika. There are a number of fantastic restaurants on the square, among the finest on the whole island. Here you can while away an afternoon or a whole evening at a taverna eating delicious local food, chatting with the locals and generally enjoying a quieter, simpler way of life.
There are also numerous characteristic blue-domed churches to tour, and the mountainous terrain around the village is covered with vineyards, and offers great walking and hiking
Head to the island capital, Fira (5km) for some great shopping and upmarket dining
, or enjoy a scenic boat trip from Santorini port. Other popular attractions are the Minoan settlement at Akrotiri (9km) and the ancient site at Thera.
