23DEC Kittila
Fly direct from London Gatwick to Kittila in the heart of Finnish Lapland. Upon arrival it is a short 10 minute transfer to the Hotel Kittila. A welcome dinner will be served in the hotel’s restaurant.
24DEC Christmas Eve Design your day.
After breakfast your time is free to choose from a variety of excursions on offer. A shuttle bus transfer to Levi (just 15 minutes away) enables you to enjoy the 43 pistes and 27 lift systems. There is a wide array of shops and café’s as well as walking routes and cross country ski trails.
25DEC Christmas Day
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, revitalise any tired limbs at the hotel’s sauna and explore the small town of Kittila.
You may wish for a casual Christmas, but for those wanting a day with a difference you could opt for an exciting excursion or energy rush from a spot of cross country skiing.
After dinner we suggest you make your way to one of the nearby Aurora viewing locations and keep watch for the Aurora Borealis. A display of these magical Northern Lights would certainly be the icing on cake on this special day.
26DEC Boxing Day
Today is at your leisure. We recommend a snowmobile or husky safari that will take you out into the wilderness. After full instruction you will drive in pairs taking it in turns to mush your team of dogs or drive your snowmobile. As you cross frozen lakes and follow glistening white tracks though forests of snow-laden trees, it is hard to think of a more thrilling way to travel.
After dinner you will set off with a toboggan filled with logs to the banks of the frozen Ounaskjoki River. Situated here is a traditional Kota where you can light a fire and enjoy a picnic of berry juice and Finnish sausages whilst enjoying the magical surroundings. Located away from any surrounding light pollution, this evening offers an ideal location in which to spot the Northern Lights should they deem to show.
27DEC Free Day
Today is at your leisure. We remain on hand to create your bespoke break with the choice of excursions below. You may wish to return to the ski slopes, hire some snow shoes, go horseback riding or try your hand at some ice-fishing. The one thing these excursions have in common is the stunning surroundings of the Arctic wilderness and when darkness fall’s the ever present possibility to see the Northern Lights. Dinner is served at the hotel.
After today’s choice of activities you will be heading out on a guided snow shoe hunt for the Northern Lights. This easy to master activity enables you to travel through deep drifts as you make your way to the viewing point. You will be rewarded for your efforts with a glowing camp fire, steaming berry juice and with luck a mesmerising display of the Northern Lights.
29DEC Free Day
Make the most of your last day in Finnish Lapland. Return to the slopes or revisit the huskies or if you preferred the adrenaline rush of the snowmobiles. Spend the final evening by the Kota, your picnic pulka and hopefully a Northern Lights show to send you on your way.
30DEC Home
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and perhaps some last minute shopping before returning to the airport in time for your return flight home.

Optional Excursions —
SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO THE GATE OF LEVI
After a full safety briefing and instruction you will set off into the surrounding wilderness. Driving in pairs you traverse through the forests and across frozen lakes, making your way to the Gate of Levi area. There will be opportunity for you to swap and each take it in turns to drive (please note a full driving licence is required to operate a snowmobile). Duration: 2.5 hrs. Distance: 40 km
SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO THE TOP OF LEVI
After a full safety briefing you will head off on your snowmobiles. Driving in pairs and accompanied by your guide your destination is the top of the Levi Fell. Here you are afforded wonderful views of the surrounding snow-topped landscape. You will break for hot drinks and cake in the Tuikki Panorama Restaurant, before continuing back through the scenic wilderness to Kittila. Duration: 3 hrs. Distance: 50km
SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO THE TOP OF KUMPUTUNTURI
This is a full day snowmobile experience which demands a good level of fitness to participate. Following a full safety briefing and instruction your guide will lead the group (two people per snowmobile) to the top of Kumputunturi Fell where he will prepare a picnic lunch. The fell is over 580m high and you will be rewarded with incredible views over the surrounding landscape. Duration: 6-7 hrs Distance: 90 km
ICE FISHING BY SNOWMOBILE
Try your hand at the traditional art of ice-fishing. You will drive by snowmobile from the hotel to the idyllic Lake Hukkajärvi. Your guide will show you how to drill through the thick ice, and then all that is needed is a little patience. We hope that this is rewarded with a catch but regardless it is a wonderful way to while away some hours in the stillness and tranquillity of this wonderful landscape. Refreshments in the form of cake and coffee are served by a camp fire. Duration: 3 hours Distance: 30km
HUSKY SAFARI TO KAUKONEN
Visit the nearby Kaskensavu Husky Farm. Here you can meet the dogs and chat with the mushers before setting off into the forest with your eager dog team leading the way. You will travel two people per sled on this exciting excursion, with one person standing on the back controlling the brake and another sat in the sled enjoying the scenery. There will be opportunity for you to swap drivers. Pick-up: Hotel Kittila Duration: 2.5 hours
SNOWSHOE HIKE
Snow shoes are easy to master and they make light work of the deep drifts that cover the countryside in winter. They offer a great opportunity to ‘go off the beaten track’ and explore where the huskies and snowmobiles can’t venture. Your guide will lead the way so that you can enjoy surroundings. Hot berry juice will be served along the way. Duration: 2 hours
HORSEBACK RIDING WITH FINNISH HORSES
Finnish horses are renowned for their relaxed nature and this excursion presents a wonderful opportunity for horse lovers to meander through this winter landscape on horseback. Refreshments will be served as you enjoy the surrounding nature. Duration: 2 hours
FINNISH SMOKE SAUNA
Finland has almost as many saunas as people and it is considered an essential part of life. A traditional wood burning smoke sauna is considered the most authentic experience and you can enjoy this one on the shore of the Ounasjoku River. The price includes transfers, towels and a bathrobe (please note that you will need to wear a bathing suit as the sauna is unisex). Booking is required at least 24 hours in advance. Duration: 2 – 3 hours
ICE SKATING
Just over a kilometre away from the Hotel Kittila is an outdoor skating rink where you can head out and perfect your axels and arabesques. If the weather is unfavourable this can be done in a nearby ice hockey hall.
SNOWSHOE HIRE AND CROSS COUNTRY SKIS
Hire snowshoes from reception and make the most of the surroundings following designated tracks around the hotel. Cross country ski hire is included in your holiday and lessons can be arranged for those who do not have any experience.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKI LESSON
For those with no prior experience a cross-country ski lesson will allow you to enjoy the ski hire that is included in your holiday. The two hour lesson will give you all the skills needed to allow you to enjoy the activity independently.
