Your Destination —
With crystal, azure blue waters lapping soft, sandy beaches, the exquisite Greek Islands are a true treasure of the European continent. There are in fact 6,000 Greek islets and islands scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, of which only 227 islands are inhabited, making many unexplored paradises.
Sheltered bays, coves and coastal caves wait to be discovered, and with so many of these vast Greek beaches boasting ‘Blue Flag’ awards, they are truly pristine and offer perfect waters in which to swim and exquisite beaches upon which to bathe.
Home to some of the oldest European civilizations, including the Cycladic and Minoan civilizations, these Greek islands offer fascinating archaeological sites to explore and an ancient history to marvel over.
Not least of all, their beautiful white-washed villages are enchanting to explore and offer rich local traditions and culture in which to immerse yourself. Set against the deep-blue backdrop of the glistening seas beyond, you could easily spend hours pouring over those stunning views.
With a 1,000 year history as the last remaining outpost of the Roman Empire, then called ‘Constantinople’, and a dramatic expansion under Ottoman rule from the 1500s until the city’s defeat in WW1, Istanbul has a fascinating heritage that draws travellers like bees to honey.
Situated on the narrow strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea, Istanbul has attracted many a marauding army in its time and has been a bridge between Asia and Europe both physically and culturally for centuries. As the final stage on the legendary Silk Route, the cultural diversity of Istanbul is tangible to this day.
The famous city of Naples is a treasure trove of gastronomy, architecture, music and art with a rich cultural and historical heritage. Founded in the 8th-9th Century BC as a Greek colony, Naples is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, and its 4,200 acre city centre is actually the largest in Europe. With pizzerias producing the simplest, freshest pizza you'll ever taste, and locals whizzing up and down the narrow cobbled streets on scooters, this city is full of life and certainly not one to be missed.
Messina, known as the door of Sicily, has a curved harbour shaped like a sickle, and has always been a trading city. With characteristic annual festivals and celebrations of its long history, both Civitavecchia and Messina make for the perfect stops to see thriving Italian towns and to sample the highly-celebrated local swordfish delicacy.
