Your Destinations

Civitavecchia
The port of Civitavecchia is one of the largest in Italy, and it's easy to explore it's centre on foot.
Amongst the most important monuments to visit are the Forte Michelangelo, built by Bramante in the 16th century, the ancient walls of the old port, where there is a fountain in travertine marble by Vanvitelli, and the Rock, an inexpugnable fortress that has been looming over the city and port for over a thousand years.

In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Civitavecchia’s main square, one can admire the majestic baroque cathedral dedicated to St. Francis, built at the end of the 18th century.

Genoa
Genoa is marvellously eclectic, vibrant and full of rough-edged style; it’s a great cruise excursion.
Indeed “La Superba” (The Superb), as it was known at the height of its authority as a Mediterranean superpower, boasts more zest and intrigue than all the surrounding coastal resorts put together.

During a holiday to Genoa you can explore its old town: a dense and fascinating warren of medieval alleyways home to large palazzi built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries by Genoa’s wealthy mercantile families and now transformed into museums and art galleries.

You should seek out the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, the Palazzo Ducale, and the Renaissance palaces of Via Garibaldi which contain the cream of Genoa’s art collections, as well as furniture and decor from the grandest days of the city’s past, when its ships sailed to all corners of the Mediterranean Sea.

Katakolon
Katakolon is a tiny seaside town in Greece in the bay of Agios Andreas, only 20 km away from the ancient site of Olympia.

The historic associations and resonance of Olympia, which for over a millennium hosted the most important Panhellenic games, are rivalled only by Delphi or Mycenae. MSC Mediterranean cruises offer comprehensive excursions to Olympia. It is one of the largest ancient sites in Greece, spread beside the twin rivers of Alfiós and Kládhios, and overlooked by the Hill of Krónos.

Piraeus
Piraeus has been the port of Athens since Classical times, when the so-called Long Walls, scattered remnants of which can still be seen, were built to connect it to the city. Today it’s a substantial metropolis in its own right. The real attractions of the place are around the small-boat harbours of Zéa Marina and Mikrolímano on the opposite side of the small peninsula.

Here, the upscale residential areas are alive with attractive waterfront cafés, bars and restaurants offering some of the best seafood in town. A shore excursion on your MSC Mediterranean cruise can be the opportunity to visit Athens too. The vestiges of the ancient Classical Greek city, most famously represented by the Parthenon and other remains that top the Acropolis, are an inevitable focus, along with the magnificent National Archaeological Museum.
Rhodes
Rhodes Old Town is an absolute gem, and one of the finest medieval walled cities you could ever hope to see. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, it is home to Grand Master's Palace, the Street of Knights and the former site of the Colossus - one of the seven wonders of the ancient world,

While it is of course home to some fascinating ancient history and museums, what makes the Old Town so special is the sheer vibrancy of the place as a whole. To escape the crowds, head south to
the time-forgotten tangle of cobbled alleyways lined with cafés and stores.
Haifa
Haifa, a large port located in northern Israel, is steeped in history and ancient culture, and is one of the Middle East's most picturesque cities. The views from the top of majestic Mt Carmel (546m) are breathtaking, especially from the Baha'i Gardens, but almost everywhere you look in the city there are interesting, if not always beautiful, urban landscapes, many from the late Ottoman and Mandate (Bauhaus) periods.

While docked at Haifa during your cruise, you will also get the chance to admire Israel’s nature at its most extreme. A short distance from Massada sits a landlocked lake that is so salty that it has been nicknamed the Dead Sea.

Heraklion
With Mount Yioúhtas rising behind, the great fortress guarding the harbour entrance and the city walls encircling and dominating the oldest part of town, Hearaklion certainly makes an entrance.
with charming markets and atmospheric old alleyways, cafés and bars, this city is a delight to get lost in for an afternoon.

Sights if interest include the church of Áyios Títos and the Venetian city hall with its famous loggia, the church of San Marco, and the ancient Minoan palace of Knossós, 5km south of Heraklion.
Barcelona
Barcelona is Spain's second-largest city and the capital of the Catalonia region. Lying along the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is the leading industrial and financial centre of Spain as well as its main trade and tourist port.

To the northwest, a set of hills run parallel to the coast and in the southwest, the old town lies along the port divided by attractive tree-lined boulevards known as Las Ramblas.

Barcelona is a wonderfully vibrant city and, having been a cultural and artistic centre since the Middle Ages, really makes for a fantastic day away from your luxury cruise liner. With so much to see and do you are guaranteed to have a memorable day off ship.
Casablanca
Forever immortalised by the classic movie of the same name, Casablanca is Morocco's modern metropolis. Casablanca grew rapidly from a small settlement into a sprawling city of three million and even though it is not one of the famous imperial cities, Casablanca offers visitors a rare experience.

Everything is bigger here: the streets, the hotels, the office blocks and the slums. The people themselves say that; "Casablanca has no memory and no past, only a future." A rich heritage of Art Deco architecture fused with North African elements acts as a tangible reminder of the city's French colonial past.
Funchal
Portugal's most beautiful island is blessed with dramatic landscapes that have earned it the nickname 'Pearl of the Atlantic'. A small and ‘lost’ archipelago, Madeira lies north of the Canary Islands.

Funchal is the island capital and is easily the liveliest and most interesting place on Madeira, home to the best restaurants and nightlife. Despite its numerous visitor attractions it still maintains a vibrant local life of its own. Madeira is a spectacularly beautiful island, lush with vineyards and rich farmland, pitted with valleys, topped by spectacular peaks and with a coastline of sheer cliffs.

Malaga
Nestling between the mountains and the sea, Malaga, on Spain's east coast, is known as the capital of the Costa del Sol. This region has long been popular with holidaymakers who are drawn by the area's fantastic beaches and made the Costa del Sol one of the most visited regions in Spain.

But this town has more to offer than just seaside and sunshine! Founded around 3000 years ago, Malaga went on to become an important part of the Roman Empire as a centre for both commerce and culture before being dominated by the Moors. Several ancient Moorish monuments remain in Malaga and the surrounding region.
