Explore the rich history of Oxford

Ever since the tenth century, the world has known Oxford as a seat of learning and beauty. Many of the buildings date back several centuries and they all have a wonderful and rich history. Presidents, prime ministers and Nobel Laureates have all passed through these hallowed halls and there is a real sense of both nobility and student fun in the town. For every proud intellectual achievement, there are entertaining and sometimes unbelievable stories of student mischief.

The colleges of Oxford University are majestic honey-coloured buildings that will inspire you in their grandeur and serenity and you might even recognise some of the elegant halls from the Harry Potter films. Enjoy a stroll through the town and visit historical icons, like the famous Bodleian Library or the stunning Radcliffe Camera. Just make sure you have your camera ready as you pass by the pristine lawns, inspiring architecture and possibly a robed academic or two.

Throughout Oxford there is peaceful calm that inspires many people to pause and reflect. Take time to be inspired by the intellectual history over a proper English high tea in one of the many teahouses in Oxford. But don't be fooled, turn down one of the many narrow cobbled lanes and you will find warm and lively pubs bustling with students and visitors from all over the world.

Discover the natural beauty of Oxford

Everyone knows that punting along the Cherwell River is one of the favourite student pastimes at Oxford, but it is also popular with visitors. Travelling along this beautiful river will give you a superb vista of the university and town. If you are not up to the challenge of punting yourself, there are plenty of chauffeured options for you to choose from, so you can relax and take in the natural beauty of Oxford.

Located on the peaceful banks of the Cherwell River, the Oxford Botanic Garden dates back to 1621 and was originally established for the study of medicinal plants. These are the oldest botanic gardens in the United Kingdom and in addition to the lovely gardens, there are greenhouses which grow hundreds of varieties of exotic plants and flowers. It is easy to spend a whole afternoon wandering this stunning and romantic garden.

The Manor at Weston is a beautiful building set in delightful grounds. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the food served at dinner was first class. Staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived.. The location is perfect for trips to Oxford and the Cotswolds, as well as Bicester village. We ended our visit with a delicious afternoon tea in the Georgian room, a perfect end to our short break. We would definitely visit again.

The hotel oozed character and I loved the fusion of the old and new - flatscreen TV and Wi-Fi in the rooms contrasting with the old paintings in the corridors (of art gallery standard), antiquarian books and architecture. Superb breakfast choice in the mornings. Staff were courteous and accommodating, with the overall package being excellent value for money. A good location from which to explore the Oxfordshire countryside.
