Weekend Scandinavian adventures in Sweden

Table of contents

A Scandinavian country with thousands of coastal islands, Sweden offers the holidaymaker the full package from city breaks in Stockholm and Gothenburg to adventures in the boreal forests and glaciated mountains.

Witness the majesty of the greatest light show on earth

We know why the Northern Lights appear, but they're no less magical for it. The Aurora Borealis are best seen from the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko National Park, surrounded by mountains it is famed for clear skies and picture-perfect views of nature's very own light show. And with a Northern Lights exhibition, café and souvenir shop you won't be stuck for things to do whilst waiting for the twinklings of the lights to appear.

The best time to see the lights is between November and the end of March in Swedish Lapland. If you choose to view the lights from Abisko then a chairlift will take you up to the observation tower so you can save your legs the journey. It's frighteningly cold, however, so do dress appropriately for the weather.

Have a bustling city break in the Venice of Scandinavia

Built on 14 islands and being home to over 50 bridges, it's little wonder that Stockholm could easily be described as the Venice of Scandinavia. Surrounded by water, in Stockholm the most scenic way of exploring the city is via ferries and sightseeing boats which shuttle passengers around. Gamla Stan (The old town) is the location of many a tourist attraction, including Storkyrkan Cathedral and the Kungliga Royal Palace. Soak up the traditions of Sweden by venturing around the cobbled streets and take in the ochre-coloured buildings.

Stockholm is also the loving home of many world-famous museums, including the ABBA museum. Become a dancing Queen and sing alongside holograms of the stars themselves, or wait beside the infamous phone and await a potential call from one of the band. If old-school pop is your jam then Stockholm is undoubtedly the place to go.

Have a Nordic noir adventure in the forested landscapes of the North

Sweden is famed for its crime fiction novels and TV dramas, with Jordskott recently shocking viewers across the world. Head north and climb your way through the vast forestland that Sweden has to offer, being blessed by over 53% forest. Whether it be wading through the refreshing air of Kolmården forest or the equal of Tiveden, Sweden has enough forestland to go around. Relax by the tranquility of a Swedish lake surrounded by trees whilst taking in the words of a book, or go camping in one of the forests.

Whether it's a city break you're looking for or a camping weekend getaway, Sweden has it all on offer. And our exclusive offers and exceptional discounts will ensure you get a great deal on your weekend away.
